the job is for a liquor store.
they'll be calling me back either today, or maybe tomorrow.
I don't know if I want to work there as it sounds like a boring job. I also don't like the idea of having to deal with people who will try to convince me they're 21(confrontation.. bleh).
so, tell me, if you have worked at a liquor store(or somewhere that was similar enough), was it boring?
I would guess the tasks I would do is stock shelves and cashier.
this would've been a part time job. 16 - 20 hours per week. The job isn't exactly a "need" though. I think I'll hold out til I find something more interesting...
(I currently work 32 hours at some other job).

I've never worked specifically at a liquor store. However, I have worked as a cashier and it was absolute hell. Standing in one spot for hours at a time, while having to put up/interact with annoying strangers is absolutely exhausting. :zombie:
I would highly recommend avoiding such a fate at all costs.

I was a cashier at a supermarket for a few months. It was terribly boring and every customer wanted to small-talk or complain about something. If it's just a liquor store, you may be alone more often, but liquor stores also get robbed much more than supermarkets.

with any crappy job, the question what are you allowed to do while working.
are you allowed to read, watch tv, use your laptop, talk on the phone. the more of those that are permitted, the more tolerable the crappy job is.
don't take offense to the term crappy. i think all jobs are crappy.

Is it a liquor store that is likely to get robbed a lot in a bad neighborhood?

My main caution about cashiering is, never leave the register unlocked or share it with someone else, because someone is bound to take money and blame it on someone else if there is nothing in place to separate the duties/lock the register. Ask about that, and how they ensure that someone else can't get into it while you are on a break or something. Be absolutely accurate with the change, because you have to pay back anything that is not an exact match at the end of the day. Thats all, if you can do those things, and count backwards from a dollar to make change, and wash hands after handling cash, its not too bad. Stock and inventory is pretty good, you just have to reorder when you are too low, so have to learn how much to have on hand.
Every transaction you enter, do not work fast, peck carefully every digit so there are 100% no errors. If you get an error and have to back it off at end of day, its a major problem. If you get an error, literally write ON the tape in the register in pen, what happened, and note it for the end of the day, because you have to match every transaction and if you forget that it was a refund, but didn't enter the refund in the register, it messes it up. What you earn that day gets deposited so you have to make sure its an exact match daily, and you are neither short nor over on the cash. you almost have to put your own money in if you are short, and have a small dish with change nearby so you can keep the till exactly right.

I would highly not recommend working with the public in a retail situation.
The number of intrusive idiotic questions would astound and sometimes even infuriate you.
If you want a stocking job, make sure you can do your job, and not have to inter act with anyone. That way, you can daydream all day long.

I guarantee you that this job is going to suck and you're going to hate it. That said, do you at least get an employee discount? If so, you can drown your sorrows on the cheap, and make up for the misery this job brings you.
16-20 times what, $7.50 an hour.
Chump change compared to what you could be doing.
I don't see whay you're bothering. You're over qualified.
