I've been thinking of starting photography. I know that it's supposed to be an INTP interest, so I was wondering if any of you guys had tips for a beginner?

Nope. I'm that pathetically newbie-ish, oh dear.
I'm going to get a digital one though.

I'm not really one to give much insight on this, as I've only dabbled in photogrophy a little, but just follow your instincts. If you are opting for a digital camera, they come with all -sorts- of different funtions these days, just play around and see what -you- like best.

Yeh. First you need a camera. Then take pictures. Not too hard.
A recent composition I made:

I know the foot would have been better if it was a bit more to the left, and I hope this infuriates your desires for balance.

Pffft, TI-89, you suck.
*Ahem* just kidding :D
To me taking pictures is really just how it feels right, the properties of negative and positive space can also apply to taking pictures. Negative space is basically emptiness and everything else is positive. Like Melody said, some people strive for a balance, some don't, it really depends.
Usually, it's better to take pictures in odd numbers and angles (not even), but it still depends on the composition.
Hope that helps a bit.

Whoa, I never knew photography was suppsoedly an INTP interest.
I've been doing landscape photography for about 4 months now. I have a pretty mediocre camera and am very much a newbie. However it's still possible to get piccys like this one I took in Scotland earlier this year.

However my father used to be into photography too. He prefers film, I prefer digital cameras :). I like using a pc to enhance or change the piccy (although the above is as it was taken), whereas he prefers a dark room :p

Really beautiful Sam!
Just get a camera with full manual controls (where you can at least adjust the aperture and shutter speeds) and a beginner's book. I'll look up the book title that helped me, once I get home in a couple days (remind me if I forget).
And that's a great pic Sam. :) You should post some of your stuff in the Atelier.
Found it. I tought it had a white cover and and spent 10 minutes looking before I remembered it has a black cover. Plus it was in the science section, next to Hawking, for some reason...
Anyways, my father (an awesome amateur photographer) gave me "The Complete Guide to Photography" by John Hedgecoe. It gives basic techniques and assignments to work on, on your own time. It helped me a lot.
Lately I'm focused on still life, portraits, and landscape photography. I've got my digital SLR, a film SLR, a nice flash, a 24-120 zoom lens, and a 55 mm macro lens. I started getting into it about 2 years ago and have lucked out on eBay for my purchases. :)
