View Full Version : Psych Class and INTP's

So I've only actually known that I was INTP personality type for just over a week. I found out by taking a test in my psychology class. I was so actually excited to find out who else in the class was an INTP, and it is a very rare occurance that I'm excited to meet someone. I admit now that I was acting almost foolish, looking around at all the faces in the class as they were finishing their tests and finding their scores, wondering who else might be INTP, I wanted to talk to them, find out their thoughts, maybe I would find some new friend who was similar to myself.
My teacher started the tally up on the whiteboard, and the first one he called: ENFJ, I look around the room, and I see half of the rooms hands dart into the air. I was a little suprised, and hoped that INTP would get the same reaction. He went across the board, slowly, INTP was somewhere in the middle. When he finally called INTP, I darted my hand up as enthusiastically as the ENFJ's had, took a look around, and found I was the only one. Come wednesday we all have to get into groups of our similar personalites, I wonder what I'll be doing that day
I was a little bummed, but oddly proud. Hehe, I was wondering if anyone has ever had any interesting experiences in being singled out because of your personality type, or something similar? (Yes, that was kind of a roundabout way of saying it)

Yes, in my company the INTP preference is also quite rare...the ISTJ preference is highest. Sensers dominate, both in management and the workforce, with few who prefer intuition over sensing the moment. Innovation and new ideas, though quite highly regarded, often get evaluated with rigor before implementation...which can be quite frustrating to me. Interestingly, most of our emergency response teams are dominated by feelers, who like the challenge of thinking clearly when the shit hits the fan and speak much of values in their conversations.
When I took the Myers-Briggs class, we were all asked to speak on various topics, to evidence aspects of our personality preferences to each other. It's quite interesting. Have fun! :D

That's so funny, I took a class and we did the same exact thing. I was the only INTP, but I had to pair up with this guy who I think was an INTJ. INTP's are rare, so it wasn't a surprise. But luckily the teacher was an INTP.hehe.

Heh, I think it would be a little bit higher in our class, i study computer science, most of my fellow students are for sure introvert. So that's only 3 letters to go :)
Also a lot of people I know in the computer business (esp teachers/programmers) are INTP, that's just great for me, knowing that in the past I could never fit in a group. But now all of a sudden a lot of my friends understand me, and had the same feeling of 'why am I so different from the rest of my class' in their past.
(rambling on again ;) )

Hum, maybe I'll luck out and meet some more INTP's when I get to college then, that would be pretty spiffy :D.
and no worries about the rambling, i do it all the time, hehe

My high school graduating class had 113 kids. I and one other guy were the only INTPs, and there were no INTJ's. I got so interested in the subject that I stole a look at the teacher's records from the previous year, and there were no INTPs listed. I'm now at a college where there are roughly 20,000 students. Shouldn't there be 200 INTP's? Where are they and how do I meet them? Hehe, I'll bet they're all hiding in their fortresses of solitude. But I have an idea. Around here, if someone wants to get a message out, he or she will write it on the sidewalks in chalk. So, say I write ''www.intpcentral.com'' onto some ground somewhere. Odds are someone will see it and go there, right? And if 100 people go there, odds are one will find a home. Should I advertise, or not?

I think that is a fantastic idea. Assuming they know that they are INTP. I say go for it.

I'm so glad :)! See, we're not alone :D, we're just few and far between.
Hm.. you know I re-wrote this reply numerous times, unsatisfied with what I wrote (see the cheesey line above), but I'm honestly happy it helped in any way.

Yah know, I had a similar experience. In my scholar's bowl class (high percentages of odd types) we didn't have many people, but we had at least two INTPs (me and the teacher), an INFP, and an INTJ. The INTJ hung out with everyone else, and everyone else ostracized me and the INFP. Our teacher had a great time with us though. We'd have all kinds of cool debates while everyone else looked sideways at those two weird people "bugging" Coach. Kinda funny.
