View Full Version : Shadows Playing Tricks On Me

This happened a week ago.
I was sitting at the bus station. In front of me was a bus. Nearby was a tree whose shade covered a good part of the side of the bus facing me and the ground between me and the bus.
The bus driver started the bus. Upon hearing the sound of the engine starting, the shade of the branches and leaves on the ground crawled about half a foot in my direction into itself. Kind of like going from zero to one, but ending at zero (or getting to one, but resetting to zero.)
I stared blankly in front of me, and I questioned my sanity. It was not an simple "optical illusion." I saw the bastard of a leafy, branchy shade move.
So my question is: What the fuck? Is there a syndrome or something that any of you know has symptoms like this? This is the only time this has happened that I am aware of. What I am certain is that the movement was triggered by the bus' engine. I have also mentioned before that I have neck tics, which are often triggered by certain sounds.

I certainly find that very mysterious.
Hopefully I don't offend you by this simple question, but in order to exclude the obvious: Could it be that the leaves outside were moved by wind ? Or perhaps someone pulling a branch (at the moment the engine started) ?
Greetings,
Francis

Are you under any stress? That can make people have warped visions. I'm using a CD drive right now, not even a CD-R, but I voted CD-R because I wanted to vote. I have a DVD CD-RW drive though, in my other computer.

I am imagining that what could have happened is that a plane or a cloud or a bird might have gone between the tree and the sun at that moment, and bent the sunlight that hits the trees, perhaps making it appear to stretch and come back in?

Eh...ne? Dunno.
But I see transparent thingies sometimes...wonder what they are...and no, I am not on drugs.
~*Aven*~
I have abstracted visions...shadows molt, patterns on walls shift to the side, the ceiling drops and I become surrounded by it. I can make walls move by staring at them and focusing on making them move.
Then I blink and it's back to normal. It usually happens when I'm zoning out. I used to chalk it up to previous drug use, but now I just consider it a fun little trait.

Wha.. what the??
Is this thread just for acid burnouts? It makes very little sense.
And what the hell is that poll for?
Is this thread just for acid burnouts?
No, because the "visuals" were always there, just unoticed before.

Yes, but the poll?
I also had a hard time understanding "visually" what people are writing.
I'd describe them if I could. I have a hard time descriptive writing about art, so to speak.
The poll is random. It's OK to laugh. :)

Nope, the shade did not act like the leaves were moving. It was much more like the shade itself was moving. The movement was about half a foot, and the whole shadow crawled. It is difficult to explain. I know the tree did not move. I did not hear the wind pick up or the leaves make noise or anything. Everything remained constant except the noise of the bus' ignition and the motion of the shadow. Again, it was no minute graphical effect. The freaking thing moved and I saw it clearly.
I do have good news, though. Although I did not save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico (http://www.geico.com), I did get this in the mail today:

Dividing this quantity by $20, I arrive at 43 §proof (http://chu.keenspace.com/public/proof.wmv), which is how many porn site-months I can now get.
Sweet. Around here that will get you 861.68 glasses of Pabst (including tip). I'm jealous because I like checks.

Yes, and of all the drugs acid is the least likely to produce a burnout. All those stories you hear about people thinking they are a glass of orange juice and so on...false. While the more common drugs such as alcohol, and otc medications can leave you permanently delusional. I've always heard the radio in my head, but I never started seeing things until I abused Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, a common chemical, that can be extracted very easily, and is found in cough and cold medicine, that you have probably tooken yourself. It has been proven that even in small doses that it will permanently cause lesions in the brain, and cause long term psychosis...
So, I say there is no such thing as an "acid burnout", unless you consider jeffrey dahmer's victims.
If you've ever got loaded, or took any type cold or sinus med with either DXM, or pseudoephedrine (the most active ingredient for methamphetimine), you are 100x more likely to be a canidate for a burnout, than any person who experiments with acid alone. Yet you rarely hear the term "nyquil burnout", or "sudafed burnout." I'm sure that most of you have used those many more times than int has ever tooken acid.
I apoligize for being defensive and redundant, now back on topic...
Just this morning, I saw a nearly transparent orb floating about in the corner of my eye.
and does anyone hear songs in their head, and turn on the radio to find that the same song is playing? It really spooks me.

Precicisely ! These things we cannot figure out in their bizarreness. Perhaps a neuroscientist might have a theory at least .... Any neuroscientists here ?
An Intuitive ramble :-
I am facinated by differences in brain functioning ; in the ways that humans are , or can be . What is attributable to that 3lb mass sitting in our craniums ? Does the mind have anything at all to do with our bodies , our behaviour ' or is the mind a resident ghost , perhaps not even in our craniums , but elswhere , like in our tongues ? It seems to me if left untethered my mind would lead me to starve to death , or die of dehydration in my armchair . Mind seems so preocupied with itself on a conscious level at least , that I would get nothing practical done.
Might the mind actually be a powerful invader that for a laugh , or simply through curiousity , or boredom will trick body into experincing this or that perception eroneously - such as by creating music-like entertainment out of flotsam aural memories ?
Maybe Mind is indeed an invader ; a stranded race of aliens . Their goal to get home involves manipulating some humans into finding possible means for their escape !
One day we may ALL be left bereft of mind as the aliens take off , chuckling !
The End.
Oh , Hi Melody ! Thanks.

I've always been able to make the floor undulate by letting my focus (as in attention) relax. Or have depth perception become very distorted. Or have abstract shapes in clouds or shadows morph at will. Even more interesting is that with my eyes closed, if I relax and pay attention to the darkness my eyes "see" instead of retreating into my mind, all kinds of geometric patterns and odd visions come whipping by. A good CD and some headphones enhance this effect quite a bit.
I can assure you that I've been this way all of my life, though I wasn't entirely aware of it at a younger age. A passing gradeschool interest and subsequent practice of self hypnosis was the genisis of the awareness.
A few years ago, I experimented with extracts from common botanicals which produced similar effects, but didn't pursue that experiment for long because with practice, I'm able to cause said effects on demand with no annoying hangovers. The chemicals are simply unnecessary.
Perhaps it's the INTP's mastery of his or her mental "inner space" that leads to an awareness of the transiency of perception and reality. If I realise that what I see, smell, feel, etc. is just the perception of such, I should be able to alter it, correct? To use a terrible example from The Matrix, "There is no spoon".
Example: I love the smell of buttered popcorn. However, if I'm unaware anyone is making it and therefore have no context for the smell, I think the odor is disgustingly akin to raunchy feet.
I wouldn't worry about "seeing things" unless they're concrete visions like leprechauns dancing about, telling you to murder a postman. I'd chalk it up to your imagination taking hold for a second while your focus on the "here and now" (reality) was not at it's strongest. I wouldn't mention this to many "S" types however, as their preference for the concrete world leaves them completely unable to understand your experience without the assistance of chemicals or mental instability.

Yes, I've frequently heard a song in my head and turned on the radio and there it was...or I was already listening to the radio and thinking of a song...then the next song would end up being it.
Chance is fun, and seemingly mysterious, isn't it? Ever think of how many things we see or experience happening every day that would fall under the category of one-in-a-million? Watch things closely and you'll be surprised...even such a thing as a raindrop landing on the cherry of a cigarrette (probably not a million to one, but small probability nonetheless) or meeting a friend you knew years ago at a McDonalds three hundred miles away...etc. etc.

 I am glad that happens to others! I have been asking various types on other message boards for years, whether they see shadows from their periphial vision, or seem to sense sudden movments. I am not sure, but I would say that it may be stressed related. It seems to happen more when I am tired.

oo me too.
If I look at something really good, my entire vision starts to get distorted, and it seems like the image is creeping around. It becomes more pronounced when I am deprived of sleep.
For instance, I once went 84 hours without sleep. I was in an English class at the time, and everything I looked at was creeping and crawling. The blackboard looked like a mass of crawling dark worms. I thought it was pretty cool.
As for the night time stuff, if it's dark enough, I see something akin to a dark whirlpool swirling around. It's often accompanied by feelings of being hit by waves, with a slightly warm feeling going up and down my body.
