I think INTP would make great screenwriters. The ability to anticipate trends, the tendency to think in concepts, and the visual thinker thing—all make it a natural fit.

So let's have some fun and come up with some silly/cool movie ideas. We all get tired of seeing the same formulaic stuff thrown at us by Hollywood. What would you like to see at a movie-theatre near you?

Obviously if you are an aspiring screen-writer don't share your ideas here! This is just an amateur hour for fun thing.

Try and keep it SHORT. Like you were pitching a studio head your idea in 25 words or less.

I feel like I could come up with a cool movie idea every five minutes if I wanted to. So here is one:

Genre: Sci-fi Action Spoof

A broken-hearted young guy inherits an island off the coast of maine. He decides he is done with the job world and dating scene and retires there to live by himself. Once he is peacefully set up on the island he suddenly finds it invaded by blonde girls in mini skirts, who are using his island as a secret base. The girls are all extremely charming and friendly, but he suspects they are being fake. Eventually he discovers that they are all robots designed by an alien species of humanoid females to collect sperm from across the galaxy, as they mistakenly killed all the men on their home planet thinking them "irrelevant."

That's more than 25 words.

Here's a slightly more succinct synopsis:

"Charmed by fembots from a different galaxy, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, an oblivious, but broken-hearted young man discovers that he has been targeted for his sperm."

... Every time I think of a potentially good plot, I realize that it's already been thematically done.

so...
Genre: One of "those"

Plot: A boy grows up facing decisions he knows have equally significant pros and cons, and always seems to take the burden of the consequences because people are quick to find fault and avert self-blame. After he pulls himself out of a suicidal funk, he decides to risk his life for someone he truly cares for, and dies. But no one knew his intention and no one thanks him.

I suck at being succinct, sorry. :(

Me and my cousin (also INTP) have actually talked about writing a movie ourselves. It would basically be a buddy comedy where the buddies are psycho killers. It's essentially a vehicle for venting our collective frustrations while telling the world some of our inside jokes and anecdotes.

Can't say I have... If I recall correctly, Matt and Trey are behind that, aren't they?

They are indeed! I think it's the most enjoyable thing they've done.

Thanks. It's even funnier like that!

I forgot, we need titles!

I think perhaps "Phemboht Island" is a good name for this one.

Okay, I better not see this on screen or I will be coming for my rights - and I have documented proof it's my idea....

Anyhow:

What if the second coming of Jesus is not what we all suspect. The second coming actually comes in the form of his rebirth; only he doesn't know he is Jesus. As so much has changed since he last walked the earth, in order for him to make proper judgement, it has been ordained that he live among us until adulthood, at which time he will become Self-aware. Then he will use his acquired wisdom and personal experience to reevaluate what makes a person heaven-worthy. This becomes quite complex because:

From the time he is born, beginning with his being orphaned, his life is nothing but pain with only intermittent happiness - just enough to know what he and so many others are missing. He experiences first hand: hunger, abuse, poverty, human evil, near-death experiences. Along the way, from seeing so much misery for himself and those around him, he begins to question the existence of God, and reasons that even if He does exist, He can't be worthy of worship. He resents any possible existence of a god that would allow His people to live like what he has seen. Despite this, somewhere in the back of his mind/heart lies more than a feeling, although miniscule, but what seems to be actual knowledge not belief, that there really is a God. This contradiction torments him - even more, because he feels connected to this god. That sense of a connection continues to grow as he gets older and ultimately learns who he really is. With what he knows now, there will be a judgement day unlike what anyone has imagined...

The Cat's Pajamas

Genre: Romantic Comedy

A pretty young small town veterinarian has a secret hobby-- breeding cats trained to sniff out infidelity in men. Literally. She meets a promising young man, their courtship escalates, and he proposes. She accepts but has doubts as she has been burned in the past. She hires one of the hot female escorts who has been helping her with her research to try and seduce him as a test of his love. The escort pulls out all the stops and fails, but she gets so miffed at being rejected that she lies to the vet and tells her they had a night of passionate sex. The vet is heartbroken, not only has the man of her dreams strayed, but her cat failed to pick up on it. She dumps him, only to find out that he had been working secretly at a second job on the night in question to pay for the wedding of her dreams. She realizes she should have trusted him, begs his forgiveness, and they live happily ever after.

(I know, it's too long! Help!)

Incognito

Genre: Superhero Spoof

A man wakes up to the smell of smoke. He hears screams, rushes into the fire and saves a little girl. He then discovers he is wearing a home-made superhero outfit, with a mask and a big red question mark on his chest. He realizes he has no idea who he is-- that he has amnesia. He freaks out and runs off. By chance he happens upon an armed robbery, and on impulse he subdues the bad guy. Holed up in a motel he is watching tv and trying to remember who he is. He sees a news story on "incognito" the mysterious real-life super hero who saved the day twice in one night. The reporter speculates wildly about his secret identity. But Incognito doesn't have one, so he latches on to the only persona available. He prowls the streets at night preventing crimes, and hides alone by day trying to find clues to his past. Eventually he traces back his suit and discovers that he is a travelling insurance salesman who never did anything special in his life, and was dressed up in a costume just to anonymously attend a local gay pride parade.

Sackanaka: Sounds rather bleak and fatalistic. I don't think I would rent it.. HA HA. How about instead the boy meets a biker chick who slaps him in the face and tells him to grow up and stop feeling sorry for himself. He snaps out of it, climbs onto her hog, and they ride off into the sunset!

(Just kidding. That would be like a completely different movie!)

Cwazy: That plot sounds a bit deja vu. Maybe someone somewhere owes you royalties already! And again, I personally think it could be lightened up a bit... maybe turn it into a musical?

I agree with the above posters that INTP may have a knack for black comedies. I think it's fun when the idea gets that extra little tongue in cheek twist that drains the self importance out of the movie and leaves people chuckling.

Yea, I was hoping that it would inspire people to be pissed off that the boy didn't get recognition and learn to appreciate people's actions, even if they don't know the intentions.
Either that or be pissed at the boy for being such a pussy and learn to not feel bad for every mistake they made to avoid the spiral of self-depreciation and the consequential negative perceptions by others.

I had one a while back... I should put some more work into it at some point.
Theme: Morality Play.
Working title: "Karma"
Twist: No speech used. None. Characters never speak. (audibly, anyway...)
Two main characters. Likeable putz, pompous ass. Film follows days in the life of each... bad things happen to the good guy, good things happen to the bad guy. (IE... movie intro... shows kinda a morning routine for each. The alarm clocks go off... both fumble. G knocks his off the stand, and it breaks... while B does the same, but it lands on his dog and is unharmed. G cuts self on box, accidentially spills cereal, B wins something doing same, etc.) The bad guy is self absorbed, doesn't know how well he has things, but definitely takes advantage of his situation... the good guy knows that things go wrong for him, and also knows the situation of the other guy.
Anyway... I also wanted there to be no speaking parts... things should be clear without needing them. If there are parts where speech would be necessary there could probably be some way around it. (ie talking to a waiter, arguing about a bill... could be seen from the outside of the restaraunt, through a window... etc.)

The only problem is that I've forgotten if I've come up with a way to end it, or if I have, what it was.

That's a very interesting premise. I like it!!

It is very cinematic. Though perhaps more of a short than a feature the way it is presented above.

I think I would really enjoy watching it. But philosophically I am pretty opposed to the main idea. It is very fatalistic, and seems to support the view that how things turn out is completely beyond our control. Talk about sapping people's motivation! I think it would work better if you could turn it into a critique of fatalism, and perhaps have the good guy persevere and win the things that really matter--like the girl (every movie should have a girl). It would also be cool to see how their two life threads intertwine, which would give the story a little more meat to work with.

Also, I like quieter movies, but not no-talking ones. No dialogue gets very annoying in the long run, people need more stimulation than that to stay interested.

Better phone your lawyer :)

Sorry mate, been done.
The Second Coming, Christopher Ecclestone in the lead role, excellent Miniseries.

I've been trying to write scripts and stories for years, the problem I have is that I come up with too many ideas and veer off on tangents, works for some stories but not all.

I have too many trains of thought and not a conductor in sight.
