What a world:

' Winnipeg is the only major city in Canada that still uses malathion fogging, although its use is widespread in smaller communities, especially around Manitoba.

Opponents to malathion say the chemical can weaken the immune system and cause a range of health problems, including cancer and birth defects. But a federal evaluation in 2003 declared that "large-scale applications of malathion in residential areas for control of adult mosquitoes do not pose an unacceptable risk" if done carefully at low concentrations. We are still doing such blatently bad things. Blatently.

*blink, blink* I hope they don't intend on making bugs more resistant than they already are.

I was in California when they did the malathion spraying for mediteranean fruit flies. My friends and I escaped by camping in Yosemite for 2 weeks. But I procrastinated packing, and left just at 10pm when they began spraying, so had to drive through the fresh spray under 10 helicopters spraying the freeways. What a nightmare.

I"m very allergic to any bug spray, it gives me instant Pneumonia. They spray bldgs. all the time for roaches and bugs in the South, and a truck goes by at about 10pm and sprays the whole neighborhood on a regular basis. What bothers me is when pedestrians and bikes get sprayed regardless. They just don't care. If you are eating at some outdoor restaurant, overlooking a nice waterway, you are just as likey as not to get a mouth full of spray as some truck goes by. Not nice.

Just try to know when they will be doing it, and either go on a mini vacation or stay inside your house.
