I hope Justice Souter gets what he deserves...

EDIT: I would like to clarify several things about this post. First, the premise was ill-advised considering the topic had already been covered on another thread. Furthermore, though I think my enmity towards Souter is justified, I'd prefer to move away from the negative emotions. Lastly, I should have used a different title (hindsight is 20/20). The concept of karma would be interesting to discuss, but this thread isn't the place to do it.

There's already a thread on this.

And as a side note, Karma technically only takes effect after you've died, in the next life. But that's being pedantic.

Unless you're pagan. Then stop using that word wrong, pagans!

At least it's better than a drive-by or arsony.

'I'm going to seize your childhood home through the local government at fair market price! And...and then I'm going to build a museum on it exhibiting the loss of American freedom. And don't think the irony isn't lost on me. That's going on display in the Just Desserts Cafe cause it ain't just you who's getting served. Did I mention that I'm putting in a septic tank where your mamma was buried.'

*enigmacrypt turns deep crimson in embarrassment upon the realization that there is already a thread devoted to this very story*

I must dispute your narrow interpretation of Karma, however.

i agree with enimacrypt.... many believe that karma is cyclical in this life and whatever lies beyond that. i guess depends on what deity or philosophy you study/pray to.

It requires either a belief in fate or a next incarnation to qualify, in my view.

But I'm a bit of a word Nazi. "Just desserts" or "deserved punishment" or "smiting" were fine words, and (especially smiting) would have had the same connotation and meaning.

But Karma has a distinct connotation, use, and meaning, something that using it interchangably with smiting has muddied. I dislike having interchangable words when precise ones were an option.

There's always good old "dharma" too.

Just like there is a "maser" in addition to a "laser."

Fun things to know and tell.

This is normal behavior for an INTP, or so I'm told. The word Karma has been compromised by pop culture. I like the old fashioned "you reap what you sew". (I grew up on a farm, and yes, I consider myself slightly pagan)
