Doesn't this belong in the Atelier rather than Creative Theory?
Just pointing it out.

I plan on never leaving this sub-topic. So, I wouldn't know.

that was pretty good. kinda busy, and that constant hi-hat (im pretty sure that's what it was) in the beginning was kind of annoying to my ears.

Yeah, the percs kinda got a little spastic in my attempts to finish it. I'm gonna calm it down some for it's final revision.

I really like the intro which seems to really have a theme/specific feel to it but from there it gets a little off course.

Unfortunately, with the number of songs I have written it is difficult for me to keep to a specific theme throughout a piece. For the sake of making it sound good (to me) I'll pretty much throw whatever I hear in my head, in.

Ideally, I will at one point create songs on a certain logical premise, and be able to work within that premise. But right now my writing skills are teh weak.

I really liked it... my only technical comment would be that there's a synth keyboard sound that always sounds late because of the envelope. I don't know if that's intentional, but it sounds a bit weak to my ears.

No comment on you, but this stuff always sounds incomplete to me... needs a narrative voice, or vocal, or some kind of visual element to make it seem complete.

Hi-hat didn't bother me at all.

What do you mean by visual element?

And having vocals in my song is dependent on me having a microphone. Which I won't for about another half year or so.

Visual as in accompanying video of some sort... abstract/cartoon/looped video of some guy in a fedora playing hi-hat... whatever. Even a still image can do the trick. It's just that to my ears its begging for something to go with it... that's maybe a genre thing for my classical ears - to me it sounds like a good groove, and it's just waiting for someone to DO something with it.

I played at a concert a few years ago and one of the other pieces played was a very minimalist tape piece that used a sampled violin sound (simpler than what you've done), and they played it with a short video tape loop of a very old man playing fiddle and visibly having a great time. They didn't even try to sync it with the music, but the result was VERY cool. 15 minutes of that and who needs weed?
