I don't know how many of you have heard about the online skeptic dictionary (skepdic.) I just read several of their articles and don't like them at all. Instead of looking at all evidence, they only look for evidence against things. Everything they write is tailored to fit their initial position, and if you ask me, that's not science at all. Basically, it's a site where they debunk eveything. Tell them the sky is blue and they say you're either lying, deceiving yourself unintentionally, or don't have enough evidence to make that conclusion. Here's what they have to say about the Myers-Briggs test:

Seems reasonable to me.

Have you noticed that out of all of the skeptic dictionary pages, it is one of the only pages where he is significantly lacking in evidence.
Having said that, some aspects of MBTI and peoples application of it can be BS....

it is true that Jung was a pseudo-scientist. it's also true that MBTI isn't scientific. So I dont see much wrong with the conclusions in that criticism.

I guess in the strickest sense it isn't scientific, but I'll look at anyone crazy :thelook: who argues with observable phenomenon. You may not know why, or how, but this stuff applies, simple as that. I don't know very many people who share my, characteristics, and in the short time I've been here(intpc) I'm bumping into all kinds of people who remind me of me, minus the nurture, we share the same nature. I can spot an SJ, or an SP a mile away. I'm sure this is not one mans isolated experience. There I said it. Now "speak on it, be honest..." - Jay-Z

I concur (sorry, booyalab... ;) ).
I do think they've argued against an interpretation of MBTI that I never thought was the point anyway. MBTI is useful, but it's not the way they presume to argue against.

Perhaps those who complain of what is written on that site are those who are too emotionally invested in modern Type to look at it from any other perspective.
Members of various cults (including religious) espouse this very same defensive argument you place forward here. Extreme irrational enthusiasm of a belief with uncritical devotion is fanaticism.

Enthusiasm.... me...irrational... 8O ...cult... devoted... :zombie:...
Complaint? I voiced no complaint... Simply made a statement... I don't need you to tell me the sky is blue...I don't really need to know why either...
I've been at this type business waaaay before I stumbled upon this fine site. And I know what I know... You can run around saying the sky is green if you want... or you can do me one better and explain that the sky isn't really blue, it just appears that way due to the atmosphere, and yada, yada, yada... :p
Oh yeah uncritical
Or maybe you weren't refering to me directly and my quote was in your post because....

You seem to object to scepticisim being negative. I too am outraged that they can't find a positive criticisim, or watery fire. And for that matter, where is our edible poision?

reads like it was written by a psychologist who is pissed off that since we have briggs stuff, we dont need to pay him to tell us we have 'ADD', 'chemical imbalences', and 'depression' anymore.
