View Full Version : BMI + INTP?

Okay, this is going to sound odd.....but I was sitting in the car and this suddenly came to me:

Are INTP's naturally more likely to be a certain BMI (Body Mass Index)?

I figured that different personality types may think differently of their physical aspects and possibly be more motivated to exercise or eat more healthily than other types.

It will probably turn out that there is no correlation whatsoever, but it seemed like a good idea at the time :).
If you don't know what your BMI is, then you can find it out by following this link:
http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm
(or this one http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc-bmi.htm)

If however you wish not to disclose your BMI, then just feel free to dabble around with the idea of a possible correlation and say what you think :).

I have a BMI of 18.9 , though I did find out this morning that I lost weight.....again :(. It's a problem of mine.

A healthy 22! Yay ^_^

5 pounds less would be nice, though. I eat too many complex carbohydrates (I love bread foods).

23. Average. But not having weighed for a long time I guessed at what I remembered it being. Since some of my clothes have been around a while, I'm fairly sure not to have gained anything.

On the other hand I'd much rather be underweight. Britons now mainly look like moderate barrels, the result of years of over-nourishment. The effect is worsened by their choice of clothing: jeans/shorts/business suits for both sexes. And short-sleeved golf shirts.

Oh I would agree there, it's so great to be 6'2" and weigh 10 1/2 stone. I look like a rake. Mind you, give me time...and a number of years and let's see how I shape up . Wait until the lust for alcohol, football and pizza starts to kick in.....

 I'm overweight. Then again, I already knew that :). I think it just depends on individuals. Then again, I don't think being 5'9" and 185 pounds is terribly unhealthy, as I've got tons of muscle which weighs more. Though I'll be the first to admit I could afford to lose a few :nerd:

That's the perfect weight.

I tried to gain weight at one time, and discovered 170 is my upper limit despite being 6'3''.

That calculates to a BMI of 21.2, comfortabely above underweight. :)

21.something. I've got a fast metabolism, but it seems to be slowing down. I'm still average for my bone size and whathaveyou.

What? I'm the only one with a BMI under 18.5?! Geez, this must be a fat type (just kidding!).

If it means anything, I'm only almost 17 years old and a vegan. But I don't starve myself at all.

Maybe you're just really ecto by nature.

I've got an ecto-meso-ish build, with a BMI of 22.something, I think...or maybe it was 23.something...5 feet, 3 1/2 inches, about 120 pounds.

I'm not telling any of you people...

I will say I've lost 10 BMI points in the last 4 months on Atkins. :nerd:

Ehh... No, that's misinformation (unless you're saying "perfect" just because you like that size). By the BMI sytem -- which assumes average muscle mass -- 185 is high-end perfect in health for someone 6'5". I know because I am that height.

Have always had a high metabolism (it seems food dissolves before it ever reaches my stomach) and have been a vegetarian all my life ... the down side is that I lose weight so easily and then it takes forever to gain it back again .... a life long struggle!

Hehe, I know the feeling of having trouble putting it back on.
I am having to eat stupid amounts of peanut butter each night to try and get my weight up....

I think i'm blessed with a high motabolism...because to be honest. I don't do anything apart from walk 2 1/2 miles 5 days of the week.

I noticed I lost 13 BMI points exactly from last year. Just a couple more and I am satisfied. Well then I have to build more muscle.

A healthy 21. :D Wow, at least some scale that tells me I'm normal!

Though, as widely known, the BMI really doesn't tell everything. I must admit I'm not in a good shape, although you probably couldn't figure it out from my BMI or what I look like (with clothes on). My percent body fat is probably very high, even for a woman.

Anyway, I usually consider someone's weight quite irrelevant. As long as a person is healthy, in a good shape, and looks good (not too skinny or fat) I don't care how much they weigh. It depends on so many things, like your bones, your muscle mass, etc. Sometimes I'm even disgusted by the emphasis put on some numbers.

I like these two pictures very much because they basically illustrate what I mean... in an efficient way! :D

These men have the same height, weight, and BMI, but may have different percent body fat.

Most people on Atkins report a sharp decrease in LDL and triglycerides with an increase in HDL.

Just fyi.

And being an intp, I would think you would already know that I'd done my research and not just jumped into a fad. <_<

How can you have a BMI less than mine and be chubby, unless perhaps you're an ecto-endo type (curvaceous/pear-shape) with no muscle?

Pogs were awsome. I used to kick ass on that game and collect a few bags full of others pogs. Then I lost interest and sold them cheap.

18.6 -- nice!
Then again, I'm young, rather sedentary, and have no muscle.
Come middle age, I'm screwed!

umm, 30+

5'11" (180cm) ~255lbs (115kg)

When I was 16 I was up to 215-220 (97-100) or so, then after one summer boy scout trip, dropped to 190 (86kg) (lots of opportunities for random physical activity, less eating), grew up to 250 (113kg), decided to start dieting, gained support of my coworkers at the time (who were also health nuts), between exercise and diet I was down to 215 (97kg)... then slowly slacked off, finished comm. college, got a "real" job, and have steadily gained since. I was at 240 (109kg) for a long time, maintaining it pretty well. I wanna get back to that and continue to lose more, but with the current life situation (heavy workload, very little opportunity/time for exercise, and working down in the city means ungodly diets) that's not going to be attainable anytime soon. I really should work on the latter, and work to get it down.

23.1 but I'm not satisfied till it's 24.1

Seems higher then most people that have answered so far but I have very heavy bones. In otherwords I'm tired of putting extra holes in my belts!
