Solid Mass -> Liquid Mass -> Gas Mass -> Pure Energy.

burn ice it turns into water, burn water until it turns into steam, heat that and it becomes pure energy.

i think that perhaps the same is true with the universe, we came from firament(P.E.) and formed backwards from gas to solid, and now we are heating up until we form a liquid that will eventually turn into a gas form of life and then finally return itself to the raw chaotic matter that is the firament we came from.

an endless cycle churning from pure energy, which exists because the ultimate is nothing, and in nothing is eventually everything, including the creative firament that started our minds

To begin with, the energetic state after gas is plasma, not "pure energy."

Please define "pure energy" for me. I think you'll come into some problems.

I don't know if I can answer this properly so here are the lyrics to Duran Duran's hit single "Girls on Film"

See them walking hand in hand across the bridge at midnight
Heads turning as the lights flashing out it's so bright
Then walk right out to the fourline track
There's a camera rolling on her back, on her back
And I sense the rhythm humming in a frenzy all the way down her spine

Girls on film, girls on film, girls on film, girls on film

Lipstick cherry all over the lens as she's falling
In miles of sharp blue water coming in where she lies
The diving man's coming up for air cause the crowd all love pulling dolly by the hair, by the hair
And she wonders how she ever got here as she goes under again

Girls on film (two minutes later), girls on film
Girls on film (got your picture), girls on film

Wider baby smiling you just made a million
Fuses pumping live heat twisting out on a wire
Take one last glimpse into the night I'm touching close I'm holding bright, holding tight
Give me shudders in a whisper take me up till I'm shooting a star

Girls on film (she's more than a lady), girls on film
Girls on film (two minutes later), girls on film
Girls on film (see you together), girls on film
Girls on film (see you later), girls on film
Girls on film (what ya doing), girls on film

Define: Pure energy
Define: Firament
Define: creative firament

Technicaly, theoreticly, and off the top of my head I suppose you could heat steam enough to induce fusion; however I don't think it would be the idea material.

I remember this picture from a 8th or so grade science book and a quick google brought it out of the depths of memory for me. I believe if memory serves that they are attempting to heat some material with several extremely powerful lasers to the point of inducing fusion.

Actualy many people would find it interesting to know that we already can produce fusion. Whats more is that it can be done at home in the DIY fasion by building it farnsworth style. http://fusor.net/

This link will show you a photo of the actual process occuring. Quite spectacular to see, like building your own star.

I read in a link I found on the long emergency thread that fusion energy was now more feasible using Deuterium.

As to the physics lesson:

a/ you can't burn ice.

b/ they've been super-heating steam for ages. Starting off for locomotives in the 19th century and now for turbines and nuclear reactors.

Locomotives powered by steam changed states all the time back then. It really depends on how far the locomotive travels. :D

Fusion is apparently possible in palladium electrodes using water, but that has yet to be verified. After the "Cold Fusion" fiasco in the late 80s, few people are willing to invest time and energy in something that most quantum phycists cannot explain.

The thing is that "cold fusion" could potentially take away the energy reliance on oil (if it exists and is viable). Oil companies were among the first parties that shot down the theory, among the physicists. However, there have been many unexplainable chemical results observed by different chemists around the world that cannot be explained by current quantum theory. Hence the physicists' extreme scepticism. However, in scientific papers published, it was reported that there was about 30% more output of energy than input, with increased concentrations of Helium 3 and 4 in the medium, which could indicate fusion in the palladium electrodes. There's really no other explanation currently available for this apart from fusion, but because of the fiasco during the 80s, there's a stigma attached to cold fusion and few government organisations are willing to finance such research.

This was a good thread to have as a classic.

Someone should search for "black hat" and add all those ones as well.

Even better, Shai Gar should have his own classics forum. Just Shai Gar threads. I think he's earned it.

As for cold fusion, fascinating stuff. I was really into it in grade 11. Did you know there is enough heavy water in sea water to be able to drive a car across the US. Crazy.

Anyways, I believe the logic behind the theory is there is an energy wall you have to get over to create enough energy to initiate fusion. The cold fusion scientists explained their results by suggesting they went under the energy barrier to get to fusion land. I'm not sure if that's exactly what they ended up doing, but they did something.

Truthfully, we're up shit creek if something like that doesn't get off the ground in the next 20 years. I saw somewhere that one of the biggest crises that will result from the oil shortage is that farmers won't have fuel for their tractors. That will be a mess.

You right, mgbrash. If the farmers can't farm... *trails off*:laser:

Since no one's attempted to define pure energy... I'll try.

Pure Energy-- the assuming it's the stuff that holds everything together and keeps the universe from falling apart because it's the base thingie for EVERYTHING. If we keep breaking things apart (starting at the atomic level) we'd eventually end up with pure energy.

Then how do things have mass since energy has no mass?

Actually what I find very interesting is that sub-atomic particles can be broken apart into particles that *seem* to have significantly more mass than the initial particles.
