The Doors meets Spykids.
Just kidding. I liked it so much I saw it twice. Fast paced and great dialogue throughout for an action movie.

That is a good and underrated movie. Disappeared quickly when released earlier this year.

My favorite line: "Where's the girl?"
My second favorite line: "Some wave their hats, some turn their backs. It's all the same."

This thread spurred my curiosity into renting Spartan while I was on vacation. I really enjoyed it. I hadn't heard much about it or I had completely forgotten about it, prior to its release.
I thought it was really intelligently done and found the dialog to be really strong. Then I saw it was David Mamet who wrote it, it made sense.
Overally, it was a lot of character deduction and plotting and not a lot of heavy action exchanges that I suppose spelled doom for this at the b.o. I was actually deceived into thinking there was more than there actually was until I tried to recall the scenes in my head. Kinda like people saying Seven was too violent when really the actual number of violent scenes is scant.
I think one of the actresses is the lead in the new show Veronica Mars.
