Anybody else finding themselves in a mix of INTP and ISTP?? I been taking the MBTI and I been constantly getting those results after changing questions am unsure about. I won't be suprised if I get INTJ, after reading its description, that seems very similar to my views. When I got ISTP, I got low percentages for S (12) and P (33). If anybody is in the same situtation, plz help me out. :) After reading the difference between S/N, I use both frequently.

I have a coworker, to whom I gave links to tests, who tested INTP on one, and ISTP on another. No clue. According to Lenore Thomson, a near-match for S/N may actually mean you just have a very weak secondary, rather than a strong alternative-view function.

Reading about what views the individual functions provide for may give you the greatest insight into how you think, and where to turn for your broadening-of-self secondary function...I've found such reading helpful

Dunno if you have Keirsey's Please Understand Me II book, but in the back there's a temperament sorter which he recommends you take if you're caught between temperaments, especially S/N. I took that and still tied dead even between NT and NF though.

The Standard MBTI test is pretty weaksauce. It does hit on the major theme, but I do find that the Keirsey's Please Understand Me II book with it's Sorter is more accurrate. I myself have tested as INTJ, INTP, ISTJ with other test - ultimately you should read the descritptions and determine what best describes you - also there are books to determine your child's type which I find very interesting in that it describes things to look out for and you can;t help but remember the things you did. This helps alot in determining your true type.

I think people can appear on the S/N border and still be a fairly strong N, because they have been socialized into behaving and thinking like an S. I also found the S-N sorter in Keirsey's Please Understand Me II to be very handy in sorting that out.

If I take an MBTI test with my place of work in mind, and answer all the questions the way I would do things at work ... I end up with ISTJ ... but that's not me. That's the facade of who my employers want me to be. If I answer with my military experience in mind, I test INTJ ... and sometimes even ENTJ. If I dig deep and answer how I really feel and think, I come out INTP. I believe that is the real me. I believe that INTPs have a harder time sorting themselves out, since 3 of the 4 preferences (I, N, and P) go against social norms. Even harder for INTP women who have 4 out of 4 going against norms.

I'm INTP, i'm sure of that. But something isn't right and it could be my N/S (my N is usually only a few points higher than S). It could be either a weak N or a strong S. I wouldn't mind clearing it up myself.

Results are in I got (E(1)/I(9), S(11)/N(9), T(12)/F(8), J(8)/P(12)). So basically its IXTP, because of how close S/N was, am gonna read up on it and take that back cover test. Those set of S/N questions were the ones I was kinda unsure about too.

BTW: Once I read up on what I need from the book am gonna return it, lol.

Update: YAY, I am still an INTP because of Keirsey FourTypes Sorter. Scores were (A, 39),(I, 47),(G, 51) and (R, 23). Lowest score meaning the one that you are, which is R for Rational (NT). :) Glad to be reconfirmed, but I still considered many of the traits of an ISTP to be still very similar to me. The only traits of an ISTP that differ, are the artistic attributes and their love for tools. I love adventure and boldness but not as much as a true ISTP would.

Recently I 've been noticing a boost on my Si function and I think my sensing is more introverted than extroverted. On the other hand, I believe my intuition is far more extroverted and I think I am very low on Ni. I must say that I don't feel comfortable putting my mind in the future, thinking about possible outcomes and preparing for them. I am more comfortable indulging into the present, doing more short-term tasks and activities that help me express myself (like music), slightly escaping from reality and trying to establish a balance in my irate unstable inner world.

A INTP trait I do not see in myself is the passion for endless theoretical discussions. I do analyze and disect many of my thoughts endlessly but sharing them is a bit tiring for me. That's where I relate with the arrogant ISTP guys :) .
