View Full Version : DFW meet?

Hey. There are a lot of people who are from DFW. Like five or six.
*fisheye*
Now, I'm sure a few of you are stalkerish sex perverts (I know I am). So we have something in common. Perhaps we should... I dunno... meet? Like pick a neutral location on a given night when we don't have much to do?
I personally live more towards the FW side, and it would depend on my schedule, but I could mark a day off a couple weeks in advance.
So, what about it? What side is more convient? Or do you not really want to meet other weirdos from the intraweb?
This is a dangerous thing to put forward, but I can do the organizing if no one else wants to.
Anyway. Line of bananadance:

-CSounds good for maybe a second meet. But perhaps you don't want absolute strangers knowing your exact place of business before you at least exchange names?

She already posted a link to her restaurant, Meshou.

*sheepish* Oh.
Well, sounds good to me. In fact, I almost could bike to your restraunt, if it weren't for 121.
*whispers to cathina* Hey, are you hiring? I'm a good cook. And a waitress. And OK with numbers.
Edit: How's 475 W. Harwood Road Hurst, TX 76054 sound to everyone for a location?

That is like saying I better not hand out advertising to complete strangers ... come on. :) If some kook wants to murder me, it's going to happen (unless I'm quicker).

Heh, I *WAS* hiring a dishwasher until my deadbeat older bro showed up to fill the void. Other than that, I can hardly afford to pay my bills, much less someone else's.
I expect that to change pretty soon, so I'll keep yer post bookmarked. ;)
WARNING: Unfriendly people may find this environment cloying. :P

Well - I think,
Meshou and Cathina can arrange the place and suggest the time - coordinate with NightHawk as he has the most restrictive schedule. I will go with the flow so anything you guys agree to will be more than fine with me (and I promise not to kill anyone on the first meeting. Mu ha ha ha ha).

Yeah - with gas prices becoming what they are - I would think about it hard before jumping behind the wheel.

Yeah, I'm not sure I could take driving in DFW. I think I'd do fine with the way they drive, but I'm not nearly patient to spend so long getting anywhere.

Oh by God, it was terrible. I can see myself picking up the pieces of my shattered life for decades to come. There will always be a part of me, gibbering inconsolably in the corner as my soul eroded into nothing.
The food was pretty good though.

Hey - I enjoyed this meet - Here are some observations and comments:
1. I certainly hope we did not overstay our welcome last night- Cathina is a good host. If we rubbed anyone the wrong way I sincerely apologize.
2. Everyone was pretty much what I had expected, but still it was refreshing to see like people in real life.
3. I did not know much about Meshou's boyfriend - except what she has posted in the past - I found him to be very interesting and can see what Meshou likes about him. He's a pretty bright guy (so was every one there - very refreshing). I don;t know what to call him so I'll call him "TheDude" until corrected.
4. Cathina'a Avatar does not do her justice. She is very attractive young lady.
5. CryoKinetic - is a much more talkitive person in real life - a person who reminds me of all that is cool in research. (Stay in school for-ever dude) - A real bright guy who has the world in front in him - good research possibilties. I envy his situation.
6. Meshou - Who caries a switch blade when meeting cybergeeks for the first time - a lot more cordial person with out it.
I enjoyed the evening. Hope we never do it again.

I also enjoyed the evening. Good conversation with creative and bright people. It was not the silent, introvert geek-fest I expected. http://forums.intpcentral.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Things were a bit more subdued than the normal tone on the board ... with everybody being cordial and non-confrontational. A great idea-meet in which everybody's views were tolerated and respected. It was nice to meet Meshou's boyfriend. He's an incredibly sharp guy. Cathina's restaurant is very nice and the food is excellent.

Hey - I enjoyed this meet.
As did I... it was very refreshing to have so many similarly minded people at the same table.

I did like it a lot. Very quiet, very subdued.
I didn't really expect it to be silent, but was afraid that the small number of people would make it too silent. I think we opened up a little more quickly than normal from "You are a total stranger" to "You are an OK stranger." ;)
Cathina is teensy! :D And really, she dresses very bohemian(ly? ish?)! Unexpected from an INTP woman.
I didn't know what to expect from nighthawk and eyebte, but a bit more from cryokinetic (since one knows more about one's age range than others). Very odd to be a grown person in a grown person's conversation, instead of someone they've known since you were two, and so this is just as much a part of your personality to them as you making funny faces in a corner and then needing a change.
Anyway.
It was very refreshing. I noticed there was sort of an INTP code of conduct-- no invading space, be it metaphorical or whatever. Neat to see other people follow it similarly.
I don't think I caught any names (except Cathina, 'cause... uh... duh?). Just as well. I think that's an INTP quirk, maybe. My boyfriend and I don't even call eachother by name, and he didn't know my last name until a few months into the relationship, after I'd moved in. I don't remember names, you don't remember names, we don't remember 'em-- but hey, I know who you are. You know who you are. It works.

Yeah, it was pretty cool getting to see  and talk to everyone ... It was like real-life fairy world. What a total (subtle, but total) difference it makes to be in a group of people who truly think in a similar fashion.
Well, it was a little crowded so I didn't get as much yak time as everyone else, but I enjoyed the time I did get. :)
I knew eye_byte & nighthawk on site, Meshou was obviously the chick (very cute) and the rest by process of elimination.
By the way, she is right - I don't remember any first names. No one offered, no one asked. Typical. ;P

My boyfriend STILL calls me meshou when he calls me directly by name (like, twice a month), didn't know my last name until after we moved in, and only calls me by a nickname in friendly company (like "sweetie," or a shortened version of my middle name if talking thir person about me).
I think we just don't like names.
