Whenever I'm going to do extended writing, say a crappy short story, I usually alter my computer so that it is more writing-friendly.

For example, I switch the appearance to High-Contrast-Black, and I tone down the text lettering to a dull green. Then I open up MS word and set it to full-screen. The end result is my computer screen looks like this:

I find it very tame on the eyes, easy to stare at without getting a headache, nothing to distract me.

What do you do?

I never change anything. Once I get into writing mode (which takes a very long time) nothing can break my concentration anyways. Probably the black screen would be better for my eyes but I generally don't notice it... I just sort of sit in a weird state oblivious to almost everything around me and write.

I tried out that black screen / green font method and my eyes were having an unusually hard time focusing. It was fun to try out though...

I use a green foreground but a dark blue background, much easier on the eyes than a black background.

I prefer to write on paper; there is a smaller risk of distraction if I leave my computer and go into another room. Plus, it feels more 'natural' - all the great writers of the past had to physically draw the words onto the paper (or tablet, scroll, papyrus, etc.)
