Hi there,

I'm 40, single. Work as programmer/analyst in IS field. Been lurking for a few weeks. Seems like a cool, fun place, this forum. You guys crack me up.

I've tested INTP in the past (twice), but retested recently as INFP. So... now I'm not sure who I am  Going a through a rough time right now with addictions, so that might explain the INFP score. Or maybe, I've been INFP all along, but tested INTP due to addictions. I don't know, I'm confused. I've read both descriptions, and can identify with things from both. Maybe I'm ambedextrious (sp?)... or personality challenged.

Now I'm rambling.. anyway, looking forward to lurking some more, and maybe posting some too.

Hi there Purple, welcome to the forum. What's the nickname from? A fan of the color, or something else?

int,

Mainly on midrange systems (RPG, CL, SQL), but I've done some VB too. Our company is switching to Oracle soon, but I'm supporting the legacy system for now.

Jezebel,

I just like the color, and the number. For lack of something more creative... I was in a hurry.

I've got to figure out how to do those avatar thingies. Do you have to worry about copyright if you get something off the web?

Probably. One reason we moved here though is so we wouldn't have to bother with those things. You're an adult, use your judgement. :)

RPG huh? What kind of systems?

heh...maybe I should have said "best assessment?" :)

AS/400. Your Hardcore. I feel small.

I had to move one of those things into a new office once. Even the small ones are really heavy.

So are you self taught?

No worries, just pick whatever you want.

are you doing anything with your life? do you like where you are in your current life? or is there something you would change?

I know a guy that worked for Cray, he said he was a sysadmin but really he wasn't a techie. Eventually he got fired and moved to Florida.

ahg! so many questions! I feel like tweak on southpark.
(okay, calm down).

I went to MTI in Minneapolis. I live in a suburb of the former which will remain nameless.

RPG = Report Program Generator (ancient language which has evolved over the years - you can now embed SQL - COOL!)

CL = Control Language (IBM midrange computers)

ahh.. neat.. I live in the Twin Cities area.. more specifically-- Roseville(work) / Shoreview(sleep). I was wondering how long it would take for an INTP in my area to show up.
I work with MySQL databases .. which is interesting...
so you work with mainframes? to me that sounds boring..

Good questions.

I saw an open position for the FBI, designing new dimples for golf balls... and improving fingerprint recognition, stuff like that. That sounds cool, except for the golf balls. I'm fascinated with character recognition technology, and it's application in genealogy (a hobby of mine). Not that I understand it, I was never too good in geometry, but I did like algebra. Neural networks - what's that all about?

 wha..what? oh, sorry, I was thinking about mainframes. :D

Yeah, I'll be getting into more SQL stuff with Oracle next year. What is MySQL?

MySQL is an open source, non-transaction level database although it is considered an RDBMS..
they have a website located here: http://www.mysql.com/
Oracle would be cool to get into it because of it being enterprise level but the licensing is where they get you especially if you need unlimited licenses on every single server on the whole planet :(

edit: sorry, I couldn't think of other acronyms to cram into my post

neural networks good

my senior project for college that i am doing now uses a fingerprint scanner. We bought it from some company and we don't actually do anything other than give it commands.

Welcome purple.

What addictions are you fighting?

Hi, I'm Purple13, and I'm an alcoholic. I don't miss the drinking.. it's the living without it that's the challenge.

I like a girl who's not afraid to go right for the meat. :o

It is worth it, my soon-to-be-after-you-buy-the-book brother in crime.
