I drop in every so often, but there's usually no one there. It gets busy when the forum is down - which isn't often. :)

I've dropped in a couple of times. Got introduced to Wikipedia and a little hacker jargon there, but I'm pretty bad at conversation without at least a little pondering and shy away most times.

Me too, even though we kind of do it on this forum, there is a necessary time factor for responses. I really don't like "chat rooms" and have only spent about 5 min. total in them during my lifetime. They are like the writen equivalent of listening to an auctioneer.

Actually, I was surprised to see how active it can get. That is, once there's more than 2 or three people.

Had some good convos with eternal, sam, and indcz. :) I'll stop by more often now that it seems to have everyone's attention.

edit - I don't know if it will help Vagabond, but the way I did it was first type in irc://http:greyskull.whyi.org:6667/%23INTP/ , pressed enter, it will come up as a syntax error or whatever, but a clickable link will appear by its name (kind of like it did here unexpectantly!), which will lead exactly to the right place.

Yeah, sometimes, but then I have also gotten used to talking to people on AIM and YIM, glad to see it's getting attention though :]

there are plans to install a Java based IRC client ... and all of the ones I tried did not work.. then several weeks later I was chatting with someone about it and he linked me to one that may be doable..

mmmmm.. my main concern is that there is a lot of "illegal" activity which occurs on the current IRC server.. does anyone have access to a server or have a channel that can be easily moderated somewhere ?

Move to the small and quiet irc.hashmark.net server :D. It's easily moderated, you can get chanserv on any channel, you can mask your IP when registered, and best of all....I already reside there :p
