Hi everyone. This is my first post on this board. We had to do "team tune-ups" where I work and they asked us to take the personality test and I came up an INTP and that is how I found this site. I had no idea that we were a rare breed (spelling mistake deleted so as to hinder any further embarassing remarks  ) as this site suggests. Very interesting. It explains alot.
I was reading some other posts and was wondering where some people came up with their percentages for INTP? Mine don't seem to be such high numbers and i was wondering if there was another test somewhere that I missed. I took the test at this site http://www.humanmetrics.com and came up with these numbers:
I=44% N=33% T=1% P=22% which comes out to 100% and others I've seen with high percentages for each preference. Can someone explain what I'm missing here?
Thank you for creating this site. I'm looking forward to meeting others like me.

My "legit" test came with preference categories rather than percentages (slight, moderate, clear, very clear). But what matters most is whether you agree with the preference the test offers you. There are links to other tests here that you can compare as you learn about yourself.
Regardless of your preference, welcome. :sombrero:

Your missing nothing ;)
Well lower percentages just means you tend to mix your preferences. Like your thinking/feeling might come out more mixed.

The fact your numbers add up to 100 is a coincidence. Zero in a category means you're right on the fence, 50/50 between the two preferences. I guess for every two percentage points, you gain one point in one category and lose another in the other category. Such as, 2% Introvert, means 51% introvert and 49% extrovert. Yeah, it's a little weird.

I like the tests here better. http://similarminds.com/personality_tests.html
They have a 5 point scale (agree-disagree type thing) which I think gives much more accurate results that the YES/NO options on the humanmetrics test.
The MB-Jung tests here give percentages out of a hundred for each of the 4 preferences.

to really 'know' you're an intp read this:
http://www.intp.org/intprofile.html
I was going to post on our site here somewhere but I've been having to deal more with real life issues rather then site maintenance :(

Hello!
I'm not a member of a rare breed, I see lots of myself....everywhere.
Edit: I might be a member of that rare bread though...but thats out of my experience.

Hi, welcome :hello:
out of curiosity... did you get any reaction of the team-members regarding your result?
I'm still not comfortable letting my INTP-ness out in the open... at least not with everyone...

Well, I found out the hard way. I decided to try online dating at eharmony and was told there were no matches. Anywhere! Any age! No, I didn't try any sex. In fact, their test said I don't fit any profile so I can't even be one of their pathetic loser members. So being the accepting, non-bitter person that I am, I looked into personality profiles to understand the inane, anally retentive response that I received.
Great! Now I'm one of you guys.

:o No kiddin'? I always saw those commercials and thought, "Hey that's nice, maybe now INTP's can meet up with other INTP's without so much trouble. How cool :D" There goes -that- option :thumbdow:
Welcome, by the way :)

Yes, I got the same thing at eharmony, something about a certain percentage of people they cannot match, therefore they don't even try.
Others I know have had great luck with eharmony though... and I think this one girl on the INTP mailing list has used it, though I don't keep up with that anymore.

yeah, I think...
The reason you flip 1, 3, and 4 is to have someone interesting.
The reason you keep 2 is because you do not want to fight about money.

Anyway, thank you all for replying. This is the first chance I've had to come back to this site. That's pretty funny about the eharmony site. My friends at work are always trying to get me to go on sites like that and now I can tell them to bug off. ;)
I'm looking forward to searching through this site and finding some common ground with "my people". :)

six, I actually was received very well from my co-workers. they said it explained alot. But they were very surprised that I am an introvert as I am the loudest most outspoken person on the team.

Heh, so am I, but only on topics I know about. On other topics, I keep quiet, and try to learn something new. This causes some problems on my current college course, cause I answer the questions before anyone else can, so the the lecturer knows only one thing about this class:
I know everything in the course (so far)

phew. good for you ;)
no, seriously... meanwhile I know that I had the worst possible start in explaining about being an INTP... just... really clumsy...
I took an job-analysis test in the course of which I was tested as an INTP... my few real friends were absolutely great. like "well...I could have told you that... for less money..." :D
but then there was this BBQ with not even buddies... more... old acquaintances from school... and one of them knew about me taking the test and wanted to know about it... not in general, but what they found out about me...
so I started explaining with the (for me) bottom line of the test.... telling them that I was different. which was meant absolutely objectively. big mistake, instantly got their defences up... the answer was "you could say the same about each of us"...
which was the end of me talking about it as I didn't feel like I would be understood, no matter what I'd say after that...
classic trial and error. looks like I misjudged that I'd come off as wanting to be special, better, whatever... :nerd:

They probably don't allow rare breads on eharmony. It's only for people.
(Gah, typos aren't funny, but that context is hilarious.
It's too bad you didn't do that on purpose, it's friggin great!
ummmm doughy!)
