View Full Version : WinXP SP 2
I like the built in popup blocker. But the pack seems to have slowed thing down a bit. Seems stable so far though.

I dislike XP anyway. More of a Linux man. Stable and fast.

SP2 has caused me problems. Firstly it kept randomly refreshing firefox until I reset it....and now the whole pc suddenly freezes for a second every now and again. I've heard it's a problem when you run Zone Alarm 5 with SP2....but to be honest I can't be bothered to change it atm.

Funny, I just updated mine yesterday.
It took freaking forever...but my comp seems to have liked it a lot. We will see though.

Alas, Zone Alarm itself is a bit of a disaster area just now. Avoid like the plague. At present I'm running without a firewall: but it doesn't matter since I've cleared this HD whilst awaiting a new one.

True, just about to go to 1.0PR & Thunderbird 0.8. I may be some time.

Gah. I put sp2 on our desktop computer and rebooted. BSOD. Stop #c000041a or something. I've spent all afternoon removing it.

An email from Channel Insider ( and no, I've no qualifications for understanding such stuff, being merely an empiric user rather than a computer buff ) linked me to this page on SP2. So many links, one would require pure dedication to read them all. Still, I liked the titles saying it will increase Linux use; that it bypasses IE security; that it has a spoofing flaw; and that many apps are gonna break under the strain...
And that 'the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team cites "significant changes to improve the security of Windows XP," it also advises users to back up data'.
I'm glad I'm still using 98SE.
