Here are the best quotes (mostly from books) I've bothered to type out and save since I got my new comp. My old collection has disappeared including all of my Wodehouse quotes. ::tear::

The Hell Law says that Hell is reserved exclus-
ively for them that believe in it. Further,
the lowest Rung in Hell is reserved for them
that believe in it on the supposition that
they'll go there if they don't.
HBT; The Gospel According to Fred, 3:1

It is an ill wind that blows no minds.

'I'm not a thief, madam. But if I were, I would be the kind that steals fire from the gods.'
'We've already got fire.'
'There must be an upgrade by now.'

Something wonderful, if you took the log view, was about to happen.
If you took the short or medium view, something horrible was about to happen.
It's like the difference between seeing a beautiful new star in the winter sky and actually being close to the supernova. It's the difference between the beauty of morning dew on a cobweb and actually being a fly.

He felt as if he'd been shipwrecked on the Titanic but in the nick of time had been rescued. By the Lusitania.

"For more than a thousand generations the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy. Before the dark times. Before the Empire. Before she decided she needed to 'find' herself. Before I wasn't good enough. Bitch."

When you have had all that you can take, put the rest back.

What are your favorite quotes?

maybe it's just me but I'm not fond of quotes. quotes can be analyzed... analyzed....... and analyzed again.. ambiguity is the rave. also it just bores the hell out of me. I don't mind simple quotes though... and I wasn't going to read the quotes you posted but some of them were quite funny, I think part of me is J (:( * grumbles at fundamental christian parents *) .. when you said quotes, I was thinking of the philosophy class I had where we had to write about quotes which originated from some very brilliant people .. and sometimes not so brilliant people.

Between two evils, I choose the one I've never tried before.
--Mae West

Yield to temptation. It may not pass your way again.
--Robert A. Heinlein

You live and learn. Or you don't live long.
--Robert A. Heinlein

Everything is theoretically impossible, until it is done.
--Robert A. Heinlein

I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.
--Robert A. Heinlein

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
--Robert A. Heinlein

History does not record anywhere at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unknown without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it.
--Robert A. Heinlein

The way to live a long time--oh, a thousand years or more--is something between the way a child does it and the way a mature man does it. Give the future enough thought to be ready for it--but don't worry about it. Live each day as if you were to die next sunrise. Then face each sunrise as a fresh creation and live for it, joyously. And never think about the past. No regrets, ever.
--Robert A. Heinlein

Okay, so they're mostly Heinlein. I still like them.

While I do love quotes, they tend not to stay in my mind long. Only the ones that I take special note of and stick, do I remember. One being from office space and a quote I'll never get tired of :D.

"It's not that I'm lazy, it's just that I don't care."

Other than that, I hear most quotes from you, dengarm :P

jimkopelli: you have good taste in quotes.

I am fond of thought provoking quotes :)

"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." - Heraclitus

"The truth of the world can be found sitting at the riverside. The river never begins, the river never ends. All of life is like the river. Lessons never begin and lessons never end." - The Tao of Shinsei

"The more sand that has escaped from the hourglass of our life, the clearer we should see through it." - Jean Paul Sartre

"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

"When we fall on the ground it hurts us, but we also need to rely on the ground to get back up" -Kathleen McDonald, How to Meditate

"It is said that there are only two tragedies in life: not getting what one wants, and getting it" -Bhanta Henepola Gunaratana, "Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness"
