Every once in a while I see a post about meet up here at whenever.
At no point did I ever see a post like "Wow, that was a cool meet up!"
Do they never actually happen, or do people just never write about 'em?

I noticed this too. I was considering PMing one of the "meeters" and asking off the record if it was boring or awkward.

We had a meet up. We even posted about the aftermath.
I think you guys are just unobservant. :(

Obviously there were specific threads. Still, if it was great it seems that references would leak elsewhere.

I've generally had a positive experience with the people I've met from the board.

I was just thinking about this today. I keep hearing about meet-ups and I'm really curious about them. I feel bad that I'm so far away and I'll never get to go to one. :(

I saw the thread and the pictures regarding the last meetup...

I guess my true question was, could someone do an analytical breakdown of a meet up? What you expected? very small? did someone dressup as a horse?pretty much any information would be cool.
Thread references would be neat tooooo.

Ok,
The Madison meet went like this:
Friday night:
Me, Wife, File Cabinet arrive at house in Wisconsin at 9:30 after 4 1/2 hours of driving
Me, Wife, File Cabinet pick up bottle of rum, bottle of blue UV, 2 liter of coke, and 2 medium pizzas (1/2 Peperoni, 1/2 cheese, 1/2 Shrimp, 1/2 Chicken & Pineapple).
garak arrives about an hour later. Me and Wife are pretty fucking drunk
Friday night is spent watching TV and drinking
Saturday Morning:
Me, Wife, File Cabinet and garak leave in garak's gas savvy 2-door to a bar where we have breakfast on the house (thanks to the fact my family owns it) and I score a bag of weed from the cook.
Saturday Afternoon:
The four of us go to downtown Madison, walk around state street, go to a museum, wind up at the union drinking beer, eating ice cream. I stop at a head shop and pick up a pipe.
Saturday Evening:
We come back to the house, smoke pot, eat Chinese take-out, watch Clockwork Orange and television.
Sunday Morning:
Did we have breakfast? I don't remember, garak leaves, we go home.

Any interesting conversation post-pot? I would think a room of INTP's, high, would generate some interesting conversation... things appear to be more real after this experience... any comments?

I went to this and here are my thoughts...
- On the way I was thinking that it would be awkward - being as we only knew each other as online life forms.
- On the way to the meet up we (NightHawk, CryoKinetic, and I) were thinking that it would start out in stunned silence - for about a half hour before anyone would say anything.
It was great -
I have never been around o mahy intelligent people that were this diverse. We al started out kinda slow and a bit unsure how to start off... but once we started talking we found that the formalities of life were just that - formalities. I think everyone there had a good time - although none of us knew what to expect we found ourselves right at home after a few minutes. We found that we had more in common than we could have expected. Also there was a sense of true belonging that is rare in any intravert.
Ofcourse I have had three or four beers as I write this so I may be remembering it wrongly - but I think that while we probably won;t meet up again - we did enjoy this meeting and have been left with a sense of belonging that has eluded us until now. I feel richer for the experience as I am sure that all there feel the same.
Anyone out there who has the means should meet up with other INTP's because there are not many of us out there... and it does the psyche good to actually know people who share some major characteristics.
And that al I have to say about that.
Peace out.

I don't even remember. I remember a few not-so-nice comments about the house's lack of tv signal, and everyone wanted some of garak's sesame chicken.
Earlier that day we had sat out on the riverfront drinking beer and done a lot of talking then. I think the majority of time high was spent just chilling out and watching tv and playing chess.

the reception was fucking terrible.. and the sesame chicken.. yeah, that was pretty good.

when you and your wife went to bed, I put in The Cell and garak played SNES game(s) on his laptop. then we went to the gas station and came back.. I think I bought a banana.

I think the meetings tend to not be awkward because the people who would make them awkward tend to not go. And also there's the fear of awkwardness, which causes people to make an effort to make things not awkward.
... or something.

I've suggested a separate sub-forum for meet-up threads. Which would no doubt include the aftermath threads.

I think the next meet-up should be in Alaska, then it will be guaranteed to be exciting. Maybe like that movie The Edge... Kendoiwan can be the black guy that gets eaten by a bear.

This sounds like a bad Girls Gone Wild video. Sorry I can't make it.
So no one here is weary about the possibility of meeting people? I think it's a little weird. Am I more introverted than every single person here?

I'm pretty extreme on the introvert scale ... and the Dallas meetup was not bad at all. Something to be said for people of similar temperaments.

So no one here is weary about the possibility of meeting people? I think it's a little weird. Am I more introverted than every single person here? maybe ;) I wouldn't smoke pot in front of strangers, nor drink 'adult' beverages...to tell you the truth I'm a little uncomfortable eating in public or at a meeting...well, I can scarf down donuts, but the point there is that I can still talk.
Have to be something more nonchalant, or else more engaging. Talking philosophy would in fact get old -- that's why college classes are only an hour long :P
but a game of risk sounds like fun...or pinochle? stuff like that.
There don't appear to be enough forumnites to bother with a PNW meeting, and I'm not really likely to go all that far away ... considering that I'm skipping Conifur (http://www.conifur.org) this year ...

They won't be any worse/more annoying than the people you see everyday. You're not more introverted, just excessively cautious. (But be sure to stand near an exit at all times.)

Anyways, that sounds like so much fun, I decided to start my own (http://www.okcupid.com/event/eview?id=3194666533) INTP meetup in my community (Saskatoon, SK). One day we will all unite and crush those foolish INTJ's under our STEEL TOED BOOTS OF DOOM. Hahahahaha.
