IRC server: irc.hashmark.net (port: 6667)
Channel: #intp
thanks to sam172 for setting it up.
Refer to this thread for details on the reason for the change
http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=655
And you can join the IRC channel via your browser.
http://www.intpcentral.com/index.php?mode=irc
then click on "Click here to open it an Java IRC client"
you'll probably need the latest version of Java.. and it may prompt you for a certificate thing.
in the Java IRC client type:
/nick yourusername
and it will set your username.

no problem. remember people that you can register as normal on the server
---type the following into the Console box---
(replacing "nick" and "pass" with your nickname, then password)
/ns register nick pass
then
/ns auth nick pass
to log in
[this allows chanserv to automatically op or voice you if I set it to :)]
You can type into the console
(replacing "nick" with your nickname)
/mode nick +x
to hide your address, which stops people being able to get your IP address :)
For example my address is:
Barona@Barona.hashmark
because I am +x :)
Hope that helps for those of you whom have a bit of difficulty with irc

Same problem. I could just use internet explorer but then I'd have to download some Java stuff and I don't want to.

I tried IE too... the applet opens but it won't connect. Maybe it's a firewall problem here (on campus)... but this doesn't seem like that sort of thing. MIRC works... but I'm running out of days.

I tried that server yesterday. First off, they are blocking apparently several IP-networks. Secondly, there was no response from the operators when asking about it.
I will quote this from Hagabard, whom is a staff member from the hashmark forum
There are not too many network wide blocks that I am aware of.
There are many blocks that have come as a result of people being infected by viruses that use IRC to propogate, and they are usually banned for a month or two.
Can you specify and hostnames or ip ranges in question? I can check the list.
So, is there any chance you could let me know your hostname or IP so it can be checked? PM me if you don't want any of these slippery beggars to know it :p
meh, just realised you are on irc...so ignore this unless you're having trouble still
