An ESTJ psychologist friend of mine commented last night that most people have the social IQ of a 16 year old.

I looked for a free test online to see how old I am, with no luck, but I didn't want his comment to go unnoticed so I thought I'd share it. Might explain the whole "reality TV" thing.

Anyhoo.

My social IQ might be of an even lower age.

Well, ......right. But I would have considered someone else saying so extremely subjective with no scientific verification (you know?). It's an Irony, but not really, or maybe.

I'm taking him on his word as he *is* a psychologist and one of our better friends, but (so?) you may be right.

Well I *AM* a 16 year old, so I doubt I could do any better.

well, if the majority of people have the social IQ of a 16 year old, it means that a 16 year old has the same social IQ as a 35 year old(what I believe the average age in the US is), which is obviously not the case. Its like saying "the average person has an IQ of 83"...

I suspect my social intelligence is less than the average 16 year old, probably not even a teen.

By the way, you might be interested in reading 'Social Intelligence' by Daniel Goleman. It gave me an intuitive sense of social IQ and a lot of food for thought. One of those books that changed how I view the world.

social iq for an intp? take your age and then cut that baby in half. and then subtract one.

11. Sounds plausible. Think you're onto something here. ;)

Although I'm rather oblivious, I hope my social iq is higher than a two and a half year old's. :)

Regarding most people's iq being the same a a sixteen year old, it means that a sixteen year old's is the same as a middle age person, which I'm reluctant to beleive. As a fifteen year old, I hope that the grade above me doesn't indicate the average social iq. They are quite immature. But regardless, the number would indicate that people don't mature in terms of social iq after age 16... that seems unlikely.

That would make me 6 (when subtracting 5).

The lies you tell!

Don't you realize though that by sixteen you know pretty much all you need to in that respect? Even before that? Look hard at the adults around you. Parents, teachers, people attempting to shop, drive, pass each other at the mall, behave in a theater. Come on, teenagers have better social skills but because of the state of rebellion and frequent arousal they are in, it doesn't come off so well is all. High school isn't conducive to social skills anyway, now is it? Once you get old, you'll realize just how savvy adolescents truly are.

I have the social IQ of a crazy hobo on the street corners. I just kind of repeat these little social norms which I see around me, but none of them tend to make sense.

If I was an INTP, I would have the social IQ of an 18 month old.

Social IQ

An ESTJ psychologist...

Yes I agree compared to extraverts most introverts have a lower social iq or socially developed behaviour pattern...

In my province/state people tend to be very very social because of the high living standards and the somewhat remote location in comparision to the rest of the country (read: backwater peanut village)....

Since I'm highly introverted this can sometimes be really frustatrating, but on the other hand sincerely nice extraverted people tend to make me more outgoing because you can learn to mimick some social rituals...like smiling and such ( :) )

I currently estimate my social IQ to that of a 10 year old which makes me a handicappy person really in terms of jobs and social status ....

More depressings facts will be revealed after I visited the annual fair tonight which is one of the social highlights for fun , fast cars , beer and of course h**t***

I think I would have had a higher social IQ when I was younger.
