A vBulletin license is $160.
I am willing to throw down $50 but I am wondering if the community would be willing to donate the rest ? I am not asking for money right now, I am seeing if anyone is even willing to donate.
The move to vBulletin would offer more features and better skins.. vBulletin is considered the 'best' forum software out there.
After using phpBB and taking a real look at their code and db design, I've determined it to be quite horrible and would not like to depend on something that I would consider somewhat faulty and a mess of shitty tables and code.
According to the vBulletin site they have easy ways to import phpBB to vBulletin. I had used vBulletin for one project and saw its db design which looked how I believed it would look, unlike phpBB.
If I were to open up donations, I would probably accept them via paypal / money order.
edit: it seems some people are interested in donating.. so this thread has been created for people interested in donating:

I could help out. As long as all the threads get moved over this time, I'm cool.

they will be since we have the database by its balls and vBulletin has an import tool. B)
The vB3 import system is called ImpEx and currently can support the conversion of the following board to vBulletin:

phpBB2

I could definitely donate 5 bucks, min. My usual respose (excuse for getting out of) to things like this is that I'm broke.. but 5 dollars wouldnt be so bad. I would even go so far as to donate 10 :o. Shocking.

So, if enough members are willing to donate, the price will get reasonable. I'm a poor student, but some 5 bucks doesn't sound that bad and I can donate that IF there's a way to do it without a credit card.
I really hope we'd be able to get the new software. The members would get more features, and I would get a way better Admin control panel myself. I've been fiddling with an admin demo (http://www.vbulletin.com/admindemo.php) and I really like it.

I think http://www.westernunion.com/ does overseas stuff if you're not able to send money any other way...
but... this site looks informative
http://www.international-money-transfer-consumer-guide.info/send_money_overseas.htm
I think you'd be better off asking someone you know who has a paypal account to send money though.. since the ideas mentioned above look time consuming.

Ditto to NGene. But I have to confess I've never bought anything or paid money over the internet, so am not sure how one does it.
Or has done for one by one's people.

If you are interested in sending money, you live in the USA and you don't have a credit card then you could send a money order
http://www.usps.com/money/sendingmoney/moneyorders/welcome.htm
basically what it is, is you go to the post office and pay them, for example, $5 and then that money becomes a check that is by the USPS which you would then have to enclose in an envelope and mail to me, please contact me via PM (http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/privmsg.php?mode=post&u=2) if you would like to do this. It'll take longer then paypal but if we want to use the best forum software, any money that comes in counts.

I alluded to this on the science forum, but are most of you into pure science? I myself find the social sciences more interesting.

That's an interesting point.
[ I don't really think we need to reorganise the different fora: just shove any stuff in anywhere ].
