View Full Version : A question on difficulty...

How difficult do you find it to express yourself artistically?

I mean, I have very very few outlets for my artistic side. I am an awful, awful drawer. Okay, I got a B in art at GCSE level, but that was just because I could shape a pot and I was a guru at the printing :D (Andy Warhol style).
I have immense difficulty painting, or really constructing anything artistically. I can visualise something in my head, just I can't get it down onto paper, clay, or whatever medium.

It often really frustrates me as I would love to be able to draw or paint.
Now don't say "go and get lessons then". It's something you're either born with or not I think :p. If 5 years of artistic education at school can't make me draw or paint...then nothing will.

Hell I can't even express myself musically....so I have very few outlets :(

why does what you draw have to match what you see in your head?

well, because it's the most interesting thing to draw :D.

Don't get me wrong, I can't draw what I see in real life either. I really am so so bad at it.

I'm sure I would find it difficult if I ever felt the need to try.

Can't draw/paint and don't play any musical instruments. Never tried sculpture or anything along those lines. Poetry annoys me in general.

I'm leaving artistic expression to the rest of the world. I certainly enjoy many of their creations.

I find it very difficult, as my standards are extremely high on myself. Both musically and artistically, "letting go" is a big challenge for me...but those moments when I can are truly magical. :sombrero:

it's easy for me to let go of something... it only takes seconds for me to throw away art I did... even if I thought it was good I knew I would always be able to draw something better down the road.

I didn't even know I could draw till I took a drawing class in HS.
It's really hard for me sometimes...I find that when I am depressed or sick, I tend to draw deeper things that when I am not...I dunno why.

I still wanted to try painting...but I seem to really just like value and really enjoy working with charcoal and pencil, I guess it just comes naturally to me. I really don't want to try watercolor...I need darker tones.

I often feel like that about writing though...but sometimes I just have to write, it's odd.

I don't find any difficulty with doing anything artistic. It just comes naturally.

I can really identify with your frustration (try being in the Art Club, while unable to draw eyes, or mouths, or proper noses, or even the ever popular stick-man), but the best thing I can tell you is to keep up with the writing, and the art, if you enjoy it. It doesn't have to be great, it just has to be something you enjoy.

hmm, i'm an okay artist, and sufficient enough as a painter, but I still find it difficult to express what I feel. Most times it's damn near impossible to use art for means of expression, for those times, writing seems to be the way to go :).

I write the occasional poem. I don't really care that much how "good" or "bad" it is, 'cause quality of art is generally hard for me to judge anyway, and I don't think it should matter much with amateur art.

The nice thing about art is that you can be patient. If something doesn't look right, you can erase it and redo it again and again until it does. :)

Hm. And that's nice because...?

Because given enough time it will reach a satisfactory quality despite a lack of training. It may take a while but if it is something I want to draw I don't mind.
