Age happens... sometimes more to some people than others. What do you want to be like in your old age? How long would you like to live? Do you have anyone you'd like to be like in your later years?

I want to be a cool old guy... not like cool as in "keeps up with current trends" but cool for being old. Cool for being a crusty old codger. I'd like to break 100... but I'll see when I get there. I would want to be like the old men from Heinlein... Jubal Harshaw, Lazarus Long, Johann Smith, etc. That mentality and outlook.

How about you guys?

I have always assumed I would commit suicide at some point.. so, I'll probably do that in my old age.

For whatever reason, I can't imagine my existence after the age of 26 . It's been like that ever since I was really little, so it's hard for me to give much thought to what i'll do when I grow old. I suppose I would just do work that I love, or tolerate at least, though :).

That's the thing, though. I'm not sure what's gonna be between now and then.

All I ask is for my thoughts and memory to outlive me, rather than outlive my own memory and thoughts.

I want to be wise and outspoken, since I am an old person no one can tell me no, hahaha. Intimidate people, although sometimes I think I still do...and retire somewhere peaceful where I can write about my crappy life.

I want to be as close to "enlightened" as possible, and if people know me I'd like to be able to set an example that would help them face their own aging and dying more peacefully, without any more sufering than is necessary.

What do you want to be like in your old age?

With any luck, like I am now, only wiser and more knowlegeable.

How long would you like to live?

Dunno, how does 'forever' sound like to you? Not possible, but I'm planning to live for as long as possible.

Do you have anyone you'd like to be like in your later years?

Nope.

I doubt I'll live very long, so I'm not sure what I wanna be like. Hopefully not a bitter old man.

I'll probably commit suicide before I die. Which kinda sucks to be honest but I get the ups and downs.....

If I do live to an old old age I would like to be somewhat more wise and approachable to the youth, kinda like that old man from Earth by David Brin.

In other words pretty much like my great uncle...who was a legend in his own right :)

The wise old monk/hermit/traveller type has always fascinated me... but essentially I want to remain independant and inquisitive, hopefully making some productive use of my knowledge.

Me too, mabye because I don't tend to 'root down' like other people do.

I would like to live to be over 100 too, just to be able to see how our society will change over the next 100 years (as it has come along way since the past 100 years).

I'm a runner, so hopefully I'll still be abel to run a few miles in a row at least til I'm 80.

I'd like to be like my Lola ("grandma" in Tagalog-Filipino dialect). She just turned 92. She has lots of kids, grandkids, and great grandkids right now. She's really fun to be around and still has as much energy as a 20 year old. She rocks.

I have this sort of fear that I'm going to go crazy or something as I get older, but if that happens, I hope that I will start up painting/sculpting/drawing again and become an old crazy artist whose artwork will be worth millions when I die.

But before then, I hope to do a lot of community work, and can hopefully make differences in lots of peoples' lives.

Ever noticed the disturbing amunt of artists that only really get famous after the die? Why is that? Is there some sort of conspiracy to keep artists from getting rich in their lifetime?

Maybe rich artist in the past proved that art sucks when they are rich and happy. buying art from a gloomy artist feels like pitty purchase so they wait until they are dead and gloomy.

Getting older just means theres so much more time to learn...
that's the best.

I find the older you get the more there is to learn. :-)

I doubt that I will get old.
Oh well.

Has anyone considered that aging doesn't make any sense?

How so? I remember a quote from somewhere or other that goes along the lines of "It's a poor sort of memory that only works in reverse..." but that's probably not helpful. Note timestamp.
