Self Employment

I think it would be great to have a category for disscussions relating to Self Employment. I get frustrated when I try to talk about it with people I know. They think I'm just going to jump into action when I'm just looking to test an idea or various aspects of one first.

Any one else having this problem?

Nah, put it into the Pub, the forums are complex enough as it is, no need to split into more sections.

Yeah, but there's complexity cause everything is loosley organised and you have to use your N to sort it out, and there's complexity cause everything is organised ti within an inch of it's life, and you have to use S to sort it out. Plus, when you overorganise, what do you do when something fits in both forums?

Thank you, but I have no idea what you're talking about. What's funny? Besides (looking over the post) the tinges of irony inherent in the post? But my point stands:

I have a high preference fo N, and would rather use that function to navigate in these forums.

the problem with a self employment forum is that you would be the only one posting in it. how would that be fair to the rest of us?

it doesn't look like a topic which stirs up a lot on the web. anyway, if you have questions about self-employment, it probably varies state-to-state, or province-to-province, which is probably why there isn't a central forum dedicated to it because it can vary so much(I think).

Thanks for looking into it. I have abundent resources for that. I was looking to find more as it relates to INTP's specifically. Brainstorming, idea testing, feedback etc.... :cheers:

I have been in a government job for almost ten years :cheers: That is a milestone for me and I am proud of it. However, I have been bored for seven of those years because the work can be tedious and very detail oriented.

I am actually contemplating becoming a consultant in my field and have been pondering my target group since the beginning of this year. Clearly many consider me an expert in the field, but there is that nagging feeling of having to deal with feast/famine.

I would love to discuss this topic.

Self employment might be a pretty good thing to consider for most INTPs, and it certainly would be a good topic to discuss on here. But it really seems like this forum could do with a career/job/work/business related section - so of course the self employment topic could go in there if it existed.

I'm self employed right now with a couple guys but am dropping that soon, so I'm looking for work - I'll probably just consult for average Joes that need help with their computer/network/printer/whatever part time. I'd really like to focus on startinig a record label or at least getting a band off the ground level, but you've got to rely on other people there, and that's my current problem right now.


It's a welcome topic in the Pub, I'd participate. A whole section would probably be overkill though.

I know exactly what you mean. I never really considered self employment, but someone turned me on to an idea that would utilize my current talents for the past ten years. Altough it was brought to my attention about five years ago, I started thinking seriously about it for the past two. Recently, I have began to check my sources and speak to the pros about it. I will have to make a move on it, but I would have to give up my current job to preclude conflict of interest. I think that, contrary to ENTPs, INTPs will not jump into such matters, before being thorough. Unfortunately, we may never believe that we have enough information to start it either.
