View Full Version : Ack, my heart...

I really should go to a doctor some time soon. It feels as though someone is continually pushing down on my chest/heart. I sometimes get sudden stabbing pains in my heart and I feel as though the beat has gone cookie sometimes.

I keep being told by people that it's nothing to worry about and that they are just 'growing pains', but it's been going on for a few months now and it's starting to freak me out. Especially since a close friend of over 10 years was recently diagnosed with an irregualr and slightly too fast heartbeat.....

I doubt if there's anything wrong: many things can cause these particular symptoms; but you should definitely go to a doctor to find out which. And do it in this following week, otherwise you'll put it off again and again.

He'll probably tell you to eat meat or stop smoking or something ridiculous. You don't have to take their advice or treatment, but at least doctors are good for one thing, diagnosis, and it'll stop you worrying.

Most people feel their heart straining etc. now and again.

Well, I could hit you in the chest with a baseball bat. It probably wouldn't help you, but it would be loads of fun, for me...

Maybe you have some terrible disease. Maybe your heart is growing faster than your ribs, or it has a bad valce, or...

Is it anxiety? Maybe?

From about 18-28, I would get a stabbing pain in my chest (It would feel like I had an ice pick stuck through one side of my sternum) when I would take a breath all of a sudden. Usually, I would have to take a Deep breath, and something in my chest would pop; it was somewhat like cracking your knuckles. I also used to have a heartbeat that would become irregular and THUMP...stop...THUMP, then go back to normal. No, I do not have Mitral Valve Prolapse.

I discovered most of it was anxiety that I had become "disassociated" from.

Most of all of those things are gone now.

I would get it checked out, just in case. If it feels that severe, there could be something to it.
Most likely you'll be fine, but if it -is- something it is better to know early. :)

That's sounding pretty much like it. It's only been this bad in the last week though....

Go get it checked out. (This coming from the girl who has avoided going to an actual doctor, well, aside from dentists, since third grade.)

Well (ack, again....kinda hurt...) I havn't been to the doctors since I was 6 ^_^. That is apart from to see the nurse there once for my tetanus and polio boosters.

I also have a paticularly strong dislike for the places. They make me nervous and slightly panicky. Kind of like hospitals I suppose....just less acute.

Well, apart from school where it's kind-of compulsory, I haven't seen a doctor except for the occasions where I ricked my ankle ( somehow used to do that a lot ) & once when I came off a horse. Didn't have any treatment from them though, just wanted to know if I'd broken anything. It always feels as if you have, even when you haven't.

But on the other hand, they can't do you any harm. ( Not unless he's a mad scientist chap who's going to sedate you and strap you down to cut out vital organs for sale to the Far East ).

I say go to the doctors. Are you having trouble breathing or any thing like that? My brother had a colapsed lung that was putting pressure on his heart. Just go check it out just in case.

Getting an appointment booked for tomorrow after school. It's been pretty bad today and i've had slight trouble breathing at points in the day. It's also felt as though i was going to faint for a couple of hours this evening...

Could be a lot of things--too many, and too complicated to list and describe--talking with a cardiologist might be best.

Went to the doctors today. It seems that my spine is slightly rotating, causing it to pinch a nerve quite easily if my posture is not right.

So i've been told to get myself a book of back exercises to strengthen the muscles either side, and to watch my posture :)
