I just joined. I wanted to see how other INTP's think/feel. I doubt I will post very often. I'm more of the sit and listen type (Unless I have something to say then I'm long and windy :o )

I am a strong I (answered all I/E questions as I), Moderate N and T, and a weak P. I am always amazed at how close the INTP profile comes to describing me.

I am a 40 year old female and live in the Suburbs just south of Okalhoma City. I was born in MN and lived in Coon Rapids for 20 years.

How is Oklahoma? Great! It is the first time I have felt at home since leaving MN 20 years ago when I joined the Navy. Imagine MN without the cold:) not as much water though :(

What am I doing with my life? In brief: I work the NEXRAD Hotline. When the National Weather Service has a problem with thier weather radar they call us and we help them to get it working again or help them understand what they are seeing.

I have some question for you to, but I will read your other posting first so you don't have to repeat.

neat.. I live in the Twin Cities area ! it's an okay place but from what I've heard, it's one of the better so-called metropolitan cities (I've only lived here a few years). Would you ever come back to MN ? I like MN except for the fact my parents live here....

The Navy? Why did you go into the Navy? .. did you regret it? Did the recruiter offer you the world but in the end you ended up with nothing?

so you just wait by a phone?...

Would I ever come back to MN? Probably not. I love MN, don't get me wrong, but I spent 20 years being cold and I hate it. I definately go back to visit though.

Why Navy? I joined because I wanted to get into the weather field, didn't have any $ for college and my brother is in Air Force weather. I love my brother but I don't want to work for him. It's been a lot of fun. I don't go to places I get shot at and haven't even been assigned to a ship (long story). Basically, I wrote point to point forecasts for Planes and Ships. I've heard of a lot of cases where the recruiter offered and didn't come through. My recruiter didn't offer me anything. I told him what I wanted, he showed me what he had, and I joined. He seemed pretty nonchalant about it

"so you just wait by a phone?... " Yep. While I'm waiting, I bone up on Sun/solaris and read about other problems.

b4n or bfn = bye for now. I've been looking at "common" internet slang. It reminds me of the language in some of the special forecasts I used to write.

Questions - OK... you asked for it... What brought you to MN? What do you think of MN? Where are you from originally? What do you do?

> What brought you to MN?
riding on the coattails of my parents.

> What do you think of MN?
very green.. trees by the airport.. trees here.. trees there.. trees practically everywhere. For being metropolitan it really isn't that much of a city compared to others.

> Where are you from originally?
Originally? mm.. it never felt like I "came" from someone, I moved around a couple times, Rural NY -> Suburb of NYC -> NJ -> Ontario, Canada -> Rural NY -> MN. I have no roots / origins.

> What do you do?
I am a web developer/programmer for a business startup working with PHP/MySQL/JavaScript. It's a business startup.. I've worked here for a little more than a year. The reason it took off is a result of me doing the coding and the other guy doing the business aspect. He can do some programming but it will look extremely horrible.. he did some recently so he could flesh out something he was doing since I was focused on something else. There is another coder that works here but his drive is more of a 9-5 attitutde rather then realizing this job opportunity will potentially lead to a lot of cash in the bank (/me fakes optimism).

> Yep. While I'm waiting, I bone up on Sun/solaris and read about other problems.
.... do they call daily ?? .... what sort of things have you learned about Sun/solaris? Do you have a computer at home? what other problems?

Melody: Thanks, I do enjoy this. It makes me think and I love solving computer problems.

File Cabinet:
Calls: In the past year we have received about 1100 calls.
Sun/Solaris: I have learned the basics of UNIX and attended Sun's Basic/inter/adv courses in Solaris 9. I've know I've forgotten more then I retained.
Home Computer: Yes, custom built because I hate not having the software to reload.
Other Problems: Too many to go into, but here are a few. I deal mostly with communications issues (Why can't I connect to the Radar), sofware issues (daemons that don't run, corrupted data, etc...) and interpretation problems (Why is the radar showing a thunderstrom where there are no clouds? Why does my radar show 30 knot northerly winds and my weather ballon shows 10 knot southerly winds? Why does one radial show a return for 200 miles but there is nothing anywhere else. etc...)

You're a web developer/programmer? Cool!! I will be retiring next year and am starting to look for a new job in the computer field somewhere in New Orleans (where my husband is). How does someone get started in this? Do you have a college degree? self taught? or both? Can you make any suggestions on what would be the best way to learn PHP, SQL, and JavaScript? Any thoughts on Oracle and C++?

Work on that "P."

Heya, welcome.

I used to be typed as an INTJ, I think I still merge to that side once in a while, since my brother is an ISFJ.

yes...

how I got involved was a bit of a fluke.. I was working at a cafe and one of the customers was a business owner(sort of).. anyway, to make a long story short I "volunteered" for about a year (no pay) and then it became a real job opportunity and I started getting paid for what I was doing... everything I learned, I learned on the job.

Do you have a college degree? self taught? or both?
I learned everything from the internet.

Can you make any suggestions on what would be the best way to learn PHP, SQL, and JavaScript? Any thoughts on Oracle and C++?
>PHP, SQL, and JavaScript?
I don't know if they're teaching php in schools yet.. SQL just means standard query language so it applies to most if not all database systems. JavaScript probably won't help you in the job world...

> Oracle
Oracle is an enterprise level database system... there are probably jobs for it.

>C++
C is more popular than C++ in a google result.. but.. anyway..
check out this article which was put out recently:
http://www.dedasys.com/articles/language_popularity.html

I'm only 20 so the experience I've had in this job market is extremely limited... many places that hire people will want people with prior job experience.

That (and the additional posts) sounds like a cool job. I barely qualify as a hack-meteorologist. Weather, weather systems, systems used to "verify" weather, etc. all fascinate me to no end.

I like your avatar too.
