View Full Version : developing the Sensing function

I'm interested in any suggestions on how I can develop my sensing function more. I really get tired of thinking and overanalyzing everything all the time. Sometimes I want to notice the physical things around me more and enjoy them (before life passes me by). Does anyone else feel the same way or have any suggestions?

I even want to enjoy that big ol' juicy cheeseburger and savor every bite instead of being preoccupied with analyzing things in my life while I'm eating it. Ya know?

Find something really boring you can lose yourself in. Would help if it was physical labor. I've spent 6-8 hour long stretches in a wood-shop building speaker boxes with music cranked.

And it would have to be a really good cheeseburger to get me to pay attention to it.

The answer is just that simple. Pay attention to the now. Notice color schemes. Sip your drinks as opposed to gulping, don't swallow let it linger on your tounge. Nibble your burger instead of scarfing, chew it notice the flavor. Look up. Look down. Look around you as you walk. I have a project for you in fact. What is are the latest fashion trends where you live? A little observation will reveal.

How do I develop my Fe?

two answers. One is to let it loose with your Ne as the leash... Two is to throw back a couple drinks and let it loose on it's own... your choice

I love letting my Fe loose. Granted, I'm alone when I choose to do it. But it's dangerous. I become irrational. I've stopped getting drunk in the presence of other people now, because that's when it tends to become more exposed. It's a matter of shutting the Ti down for a little while. It's possible. I was doing it before I knew anything about what it was. I just told myself to stop thinking, and just feel. It's possible, and the more you do it, the more you can develop it, I suppose. It doesn't happen for a long time though... I guess the Ti doesn't shut down, it just stays in the background, still babbling away. You just have to tune it out. If you get me at all.

As for the sensing function, I think I've got that pretty much sorted. I used to eat my food too fast, drink too fast, march from place to place as though I was always in a hurry. But I've learned to slow down lately and appreciate the small pleasures in life that can easily be overlooked.

That's why i gave the alternative of having your Ne act as a leash for the Fe.

Go skydiving - your Se will shatter, and your Ne will soar in the wake of the resulting adrenaline rush.

Take a nature walk - identify trees, look for animals, marvel what a neat a varied colour green is.

Learn how to juggle.

Buy a bike or a skateboard. Drop in on a half-pipe.

Go skiing or snowboarding. A must.

Travel.

Mix up different concoctions of coffee.

Ditto with alcohol. Track down a local micro-brewery and compare.

Music! Download soulseek and try some of the bands mentioned in my recent music thread.

Shows - watch bands jam; dance it up in the pit.

Photography - go to a pawnshop, buy a stolen camera for $50 and learn the art of taking a good picture.

Nachos!

Urban Exploration - especially in areas you're not supposed to be in.

Woah. In college, I literally wouldn't walk anywhere if I could help it. Pretty much sprinted in between any of the buildings on campus to get to classes.

Didn't think that would have been an iN thing.

You need a holiday by the sea.

Concentrate on your physical environment. Use all your senses, grab things up, throw stones etc. The forest or sea are good places to do that. I would prefer the forest, as there usually are fewer people that could get on your nerves. Make sure there is nothing urgent you need to decide and reserve a complete day to roam. Bait your Ti away to your subsconcious by reading the collected works of Dostojevski the night before.

I don't think you can do it like that. I think you'll only really try something new when you're in a crisis situation.

Don't do it, you will end up an SP, those booze loving, BS'r, don't understand Intuitive, realistic personalities. Despicable.

I bet aether walks around like Jughead Jones. Eyes closed, fearful that if he dares to open them for just one second!, or, just one eye for an indefinite period of time!, that he will fall prey to the curse of the SP... There is no turning back, you will be sensorized... You will lose all ability to wear your shirt backwards all day and be oblivious to that fact while you contemplate Kant's categorical imperative...
