Pick a member with a distinctive style ( otherwise you will find this difficult ) and emulate it. After doing so, you may elect to suggest what the following poster should emulate. The following poster should seriously consider this sugggestion, but doesn't have to follow it. You should also pick the SUBJECT about which you would like them to extemporaneously comment upon in this style.

I have already emulated Hustler before - in my "Be Hustler" thread, and I've emulated other posters in Serotonin's "Pre-empt a Troll" thread. So I've already made the first move.

Most points are given to people picking members who are recognizable but not obvious/easy. This can also be set up where readers must GUESS who is being emulated. ( In that case, you would not follow the suggestion, of course. )

Headfonez has already been done many times now. Therefore anyone choosing him to emulate will receive the punishment of having to conduct a "Headfonez or Hustler" poll regarding who would be preferable to date your sister.

Let the reader know if you are planning on following the prior suggestion at the beginning of the thread.

I imagine this will be a short thread, as it will be difficult to carry it off without being ham handed. Yet a certain exaggeratedness is necessary to avoid confusion - regarding similar members etc.

My suggestion to the next poster is to emulate D-Man arguing on the subject of RSVP's and keeping appointments. You can concoct some argument he is responding to.

Remember - you do not have to take my suggestion. If you elect to "imitate" yourSELF - then you must try to show yourself in a caricatured way.

Wow, that is one good kuranes impression *applause*As have you done an excellent impression of Lee.

The fact that you do an impression of yourself could speak to some schizophrenic issues, but that's an entirely different thread.

Thanks for the bump.

I didn't do an impression in my initial post because, as I explained, I had already done so elsewhere. If I were going to do an impression of myself, I'd have to try and make it read like it would if someone else were to have written it. It would have to be a caricature of itself. I suppose it would include anger at some callousness out there which wasn't being addressed, and a post about that which allowed itself to go off on tangents. Not that all my posts do that, but I think that is maybe how I am remembered by some.

Lee, you have the talent to do some good impressions, I think.

Even on a Saturday night, taking on a challenge like this thread would represent quite an investment in time, however. So maybe I should make the first suggestion easier than attempting D-Man. Perhaps Shady Shady could be done by somone who would have him arguing against men wearing their hair long. That shouldn't be too much to ask.

I will do Madrigal when she is psycho-analysing her own post.

I will now analyse my own post.

I just used the word analyse, which means I am thinking of anal sex.

I just used the word sex, which must mean I am thinking of oil. Oil is made of dinosaurs, and what did they use to reproduce? That's right - sex.

Oil is bad. Oil belongs to the people. All the people in the world should have oil, and it should be distributed, daily, to them by airplane. Every citizen his or her own airplane that delivers them their fair share of oil to their doorstep!

Yes it means we'll probably use up the entire world reserves in a few days, just to keep those personal airplanes in the air, and it will mean that half the working population will have to become pilots, but IT IS FOR THE BEST!

And I know what the best is, because I AM the people. Long live the people!

Besides, rules suck. ;PYou guys could imagine a hypothetical sister. "Who Dates the Ur-Sister?" could be the title of the thread. Or you could imagine a female or somewhat altered version of yourself, whose personality/type would have developed in the torture of having to grow up with a sibling like yourselves.

You could make up a whole, interesting backstory to them. Hell, you could create an entire family of imaginary relatives!

Hello we will now do an experiment. I will give all the people here a personal title in which I ascribe their hotness on a scale of 1 to 10. Then you all have to tell me how hot I am in return in a thread that will be especially made for that purpose in the 'hotness forum'. There will be pictures. The rest of the forum, all current threads, and all present personal titles will be erased...

kuranes
14 Nov 2005, 09:28 AM
It does not have to be about your sister. You are simply starting up the new thread ( and MCing it like I'm doing with this one right here ) that has the poll in it - about whether the people who post in this thread would choose Hustler or Headfonez as a date for their sister, if they had to pick one. People who do not have sisters can elect not to contribute to the thread, or ( as was suggested ) pretend that they have one. The hassle of MCing the thread was supposed to serve as a disincentive to do Headfonez, as he is an easy target.

Now I will give you some impressions, and you can tell me who you think they are:

( A. ) No, No. You all have to stay here in this room. Only I can leave it. Maybe you'll be rescued by the villagers. But only if you've been good to them!

( B. ) Sometimes I wonder why I get angry with people who annoy me by being selfish. And then I realize that I annoy THEM too. But I only care about this when I think of it. Which is not when I'm doing it. Later, I will remember that I have done it again. But then it won't matter.

( C. ) I suppose that these people are to be considered the soul of the judicious, in a world as perfect as they are. I only hope I do not have to live in such a world.

Were "Johnny we hardly knew ye" the final words of such a joust, we might be left at least with more than the dregs of past susceptibility.

Heavy is the hand of the ruler - a word to the wise is sufficient.
( And I hope I possess at least SOME of this increasingly dear commodity. )

( D. ) I'm walking down the hall and just kind of gliding on auto pilot. Im amazed at how much I get DONE this way! If I could only use the same thing on the two sisters I met last night. At least I THINK they were sisters!

Who are these posters?

So far the best entries have been Distraction Tactics " Christi " at #1 and Coffee Zombie's has the virtue of originality, even though it was not done in the style of SIL per se. This is the downfall of some attempts, which used the right content, but did not emulate the style. Hex's Muffin was very good, but I should have put Shai on the forbidden list, as he is an easy one. Since I didn't think to do that though, Hex is in third place.

We could possibly say that Hustler did a fantastic job ( as usual ) of playing himself. But he is on the forbiodden list also. So his contribution doesn't count.

You can also PM members to "team up" and have an argument where you play someone other than yourself. Perhaps the other person will play themself, or maybe they will pick a different person also. Work out an outline of a sketch in your PM's.

There never was a "villager" thread per se, but it was similar to other threads where she kind of appointed herself goddess of the imaginary world. I thought it would be the very first one recognized. All of the "impressions" are things I actually made up just now. They are not quotes, but relate to things that these posters have said enough times in similar ways that it is their signature. And they are written in those members same way of phrasing also, hopefully.

Z. I don't think I exist because all the rules that govern this universe are arbitrary and meaningless. People don't always realize that the world they think they understand is really constantly redefining itself and the only way to truly understand reality, or nonreality since there is no such thing as reality, is to think about all of this, regardless the fact that I will, at the end of the day, deny my existance to the end of time. Even this post I write is insufficient to prove to me, or to anyone else, really, that I exist and I think maybe, that is the way things shall remain, so long as everything doesn't mean anything.

W. wrong. what youre saying has no basis in fact. all the men in this world have penises because their evolutionary rivals, the halfmenhalfwomen did not suceed to the same rate as the women and men who were biologically different enough to warrant different labels for their sexual glands. the behavior intrinsically found in those that deviate are found to be genetic mutants, according to a recent study done in a lab in new switzerland.

Ape - Back to the drawing board for me then on that one.

New ones from me -

( A. ) Do you LIKE having people come take money out of your pocket? Because that's what you're asking for.

( B. ) You're reaching on that last part, because it only avoids straw man through a kind of reverse solipsism. Your argument here, and your own ethics, are both too closely tied to systems outside of your influence.

( A. ) I was in a bar and I heard some guys talking about girls that they wanted, and there was the usual one-upmanship going on as they tried to out-macho each other. I wondered if this is related to MBTI or just to the male neurochemistry? Are we hardwired for this? So far I've been resisting it, but I never thought I was "normal."

Checked out a concert by The Spindizzies that I managed to get tickets for. The good news is that Jaspers is back. The bad news is that so is his girlfriend. Some of the songs seemed to meander quite a bit, possibly due to this "new influence". Still, it was a great show, and they played "Don't We All Fall Down?" as an encore.

Isn't it an interesting phenomenon that we all are so aware of each others' styles - whether this is a way of expressing our inner being, or rather, to play a role in the forum community, is a thought I must leave for now -- isn't it always like that ? -- - and also that we find it so interesting to imitate each other?

Is imitation perhaps an innovative way of talking, each of us giving no information about ourselves -- although, naturally, we do give away a lot by doing this exercise -- or is it just another method of determining who is the most popular, or un-popular, member? * With this I, of course, mean that it could be a disappointment -- perhaps, to some, a relief -- not to have been imitated. *

( This post can also be taken as a statement of me missing an old-time member. )

I think most of the people imitated are posters that people look forward to reading, and so I don't think it was a way of indicating their "unpopularity". Whether people would enjoy having impressions done of them is another matter. Perhaps not for some. But I've never been one to tiptoe on the eggshells. If someone tells me directly that they would prefer not to be imitated, I will refrain. Otherwise . . . People are also free to imitate Kuranes if they so choose. Even if it is a bit of a put-down I will still get a charge out of it. What do they say about bad publicity?

The peak output of the Burgan oil field will now be around 1.7 million barrels per day, and not the two million barrels per day forecast for the rest of the field's 30 to 40 years of life, Chairman Farouk Al Zanki told Bloomberg.

Interesting that you use the phrase "Gahhh". Relating to the "meme" thread. How people pass these things on to one another. You may have used the phrase for 10 years, for all I know. Or picked it up here. Or been the source for others who borrowed it from you. I note that both Corporate Whore and Lee enjoy it. I had picked PT Gatsby for Lee's impression because he likes the phrase "errrm" to indicate he's cogitating. So, apparently there's ANOTHER "errrm" er out there on INTPC! W. wrong. what youre saying has no basis in fact. all the men in this world have penises because their evolutionary rivals, the halfmenhalfwomen did not suceed to the same rate as the women and men who were biologically different enough to warrant different labels for their sexual glands. the behavior intrinsically found in those that deviate are found to be genetic mutants, according to a recent study done in a lab in new switzerland.

What have we or I done wrong to you since you choose to create a thread with the purpose of ridicule us? I have not attacked you personally eventhought others may have. Please tell me your grounds for such a thread?

distraction tactics I was trying to be serious, what have I said that appears to be humorous? As an INFJ I find conflict between others destructive and your response puzzles me as to how this matter, or myself is "funny." All these threads on INTPCentral, or NCen that seek to bash or critize others, while adding more posts, ultimitely serve nothing towards the primary overall goal of either forum. A place for discussion about similar/contrasting issues of personality (whether iNtuitive or INTP in nature).

sdalek if you don't know what flattery is please give it some thought into researching the topic, hopefully you will learn something of value, but you may not find it interesting, cause after all I can not place myself in your shoes to see what you value.

sdalek, I do not know Kuranes personally, so I will take your word for it that he is acting as to what INTP Central members would call up to par with his personality. Also I was never informed as to your opinion as to "what flattery is." Please enlighten me.

I admit I have an extremly cynical view of flattery biased by 30+ years of having dealt with harsh treatment based on my background, name, accent, etc. Based on the way I read Kuranes' introduction, I don't believe it is the intention to disrespect anyone on the site via imitation. I read it as an acknowlegement that everyone has their distinct communication personality and style and by imitating it we are validating them and the value of their contributions to ourselves and peers by recognizing them for that.

Are you invalidating me by telling me that my personal definitions and values are wrong because you disagree?

"Second Taste"

I burped and a small particle of food I had already swallowed came up again into my mouth. Instead of spitting it out, I chewed it again some more. I tried to remember as I chewed, by the taste and texture, what it might have been the first time around.

Did I not spit it out because I felt it was like a part of me now ? Why did I feel like chewing it some more ?

Kinda like recycling thoughts, if you think about it. Meh. I suppose it doesn't really matter what I think, in the grand scheme of the universe or whatever, but its funny how my burped food made me think of that.

Contest B -

I know that this is what you posted. Who said it wasn't ? My own research has shown, however, that classical MBTI theory is wrong in at least three places, and the area you're referring to is one of those three, in case you hadn't noticed that small detail.

As far as these people who continue to back thinly disguised government mandates of this sort, all I can say is that they cheered for Hitler, too. Seeing a repetition of these patterns, including the modern variations of those same patterns, is not exactly rocket science, but some of you sure make it sound like that.
