Are Art types SPs or NFs? From my pov, art types refer to the subset of people who devote a significant part of their lives to literature, drama, and other forms of artistic expression. They can often appear to be intellectuals, eager to explore the depths of the human connection, or lack thereof. On the other hand, they are doers who try to transform their ideas or emotions into an external framework of reality (ie theater). My recent interest in The New Yorker (http://www.newyorker.com) has triggered this query.

I don't think it is that granular. Each mbti-class has their own style of art types. There are intp, isfj, entp, esfj types of artists, and their style is reflected in their type. If you believe that sort of stuff.
To get a real answer you'd probably have to narrow down your category of 'art types'. For example, the people that draw shitty wildlife art, or the people that write shitty poetry, or the people that make shitty music, or the people that make shitty beef.

I'd agree. I've encountered artists in almost every personality type. Admittedly, I've come across more IxFx artists than any other, though. The next most common seems to be ExFx. There seem to be more introverts (many being ITs) in 3d than extroverts. The 2d arts have many of both. This is an informal tree-stand type of study, of course, but it has struck me how many realism artists there are who are ITs. The abstract artists are more often xxFx's.

Also agree. I don't know what you mean by "art type". There are those who create art and those who intellectualize it. I suppose that intellectualizing art could make one an "art type", too. It's all hinged upon your defintion of art.
I would define art as a person's desire to express himself and to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in. Different personalities have different reactions. Thus, any MBTI type is likely to be an "art type".

I'm an INTP, and throughout my life my teachers and peers have tried to convince me that I was born to be an artist - creative in every facet of my existence. So, being the schmuck that I am I gradually began to cease any sort of activity that would confirm their beliefs. Now I'm 20. I vegetate in my room alone most of the day and refuse to so much as move fearing that I might do something clever or unique. Also, I purposefully jumble my thoughts. The 'net is my only escape from this comic existence, since everyone is considered a dilettante, fool and half-wit regardless of true merit or pedigree.
