I think we need a forum where we can post and it won't leave indentifying traces.
I think it would be an interesting experiment to see what people will post in it.

It would be like "Johnny's War Thread" on crack.

That would be the "Flame of all Flames" thread wouldn't it?

Awsome, I agree. Good amusement.

At the same time, though... who knows what could come up? Wouldn't it just be the same as posting as a guest?

Crafty members could attack themselves in order to flush out dissidence.

>_> Sounds like a good idea.. not sure if I'd have the guts to post (even though it would be anonymous)

Sounds fun! A good way to destress, as well.

Crafty, eh? They're on to me...
What about just creating a username like "anonymous" and giving anyone who wants to use it the password, but restricting the posting of that name to one forum? What about people who would try and figure out who had made what posts by common word useage, manner of speech, and that sort of thing? To keep posts by one person straight, you'd have to have some sort of vestigal signature, like "Person 1" or "He Who Started This Paticular Thread." That doesn't mean people would neccesarily stick with that... crafty... <_<

I don't care about anonymity issues, personally. I would just want to see the moderator "hide from public view" and member quote buttons disabled for such a thread, so that everyone has personal control over their participation level at all times.
Anonymous posting sounds pathetic to me. There are plenty of people who say whatever they want all the time and a forum is relatively anonymous by nature anyway. If you are too shy to say what you mean on a forum, then how can you ever expect to stand up for yourself in the real world of men? Just my opinion...
I won't die like "Piggy" from Lord of the Flies.

There's nothing I would say anonymously on this board that I wouldn't say under my normal username. I figure if it's something I have second thoughts about saying because I don't want anyone to know I said it, I should probably keep it to myself. What's the lure toward this? Flaming other members without consequences? Giving out too personal information about yourself? Attacking other's beliefs anonymously? Being able to say things that you would otherwise be ashamed of?
Am I missing something here, or do members here really have that much malignance toward others that isn't being said?
On a side note, I don't know about the other mods, but the most I've done in the past few weeks is remove a couple double/triple posts. There's not a lot of moderating around here to be done - ime.
Anyways, carry on...

Yeah.
I also don't like the anonymity thing... does it mean we don't have the courage to speak our minds with our nicknames on our posts?

I don't like the idea, mostly for the same reasons others have already stated, but if there are enough people here who want the forum, I'll do what the community wants and create it. Here's a poll (http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=803), now everyone go vote there!

Can the quote feature be turned off? Anonymous posting is good, thats a feature I love. Replace the quote feature with an anonymous feature and it will be better. Or, if the quote feature stays, the option to post anonymously is nice.

I don't know if I like this idea
Entertainment value is high, that's for sure but it does seem weak.
I have my secrets but I am not sure if I would even share those anonymously, it is not that hard for an admin to figure out who the poster is, unless you use a proxy but that would just mean that true anonymous posting would only be for those of us who are geek enough to know how to do it.

What about the non-inflammatory uses of this possibility? The mods could select a member of the week or something, and they could post a bunch of stuff anon, and we could try to guess who it was within a certain # of days... and now I realize that that sounds like work.
