Something in one of the other threads made me think of this. Does anyone have some sort of collection that they keep? Anything at all.
I collect...
Books... see fav books thread.
Cards... both TCG (Magic) and standard playing, but only if they're different, like funny shaped or something like that.
Guitar Picks... even though I don't play.

I have large collection of Star Wars CCG cards (all of which are out of print now)
I also collect beer mats, but only have about 60 so far. I like the more obscure designs (often mainland europe ones :D)
I seem to have developed a collection of used batteries too recently ¬_¬, over 100 in all, including my favorite red / silver Tianbar AA batteries made by the Huajin Battery co .ltd. They have a little dancing blobe with feet and wings on the front :D

Library books stolen from the school media center. Of course if I didn't check out books three at a time and keep them in different locations around the town until they are months over-due I would not have to steal them, but what fun is that?

S, you collect Duncan Phyfe, I like that style too. In fact its one of the styles I've had on my list for a long time now. Its very hard to find, and the only place I could find it was Havertys, I want the oval coffee table from Havertys. Of course, thats not an antique, just a replica.
Collect:
Rocks, fossils, gems, shells, heartshaped rocks, feathers, stamps, coins, glass art, (just beginning), antique books-leather bound, various antique furniture like butterchurns. I won a collector barbie thats worth $300 but thats embarrassing, I keep it hidden in the back of my closet. Dolls aren't my thing. I collect books, records, tapes, dvds, cds, and other things. Oh, matchbooks from all over. And antique thimbles. And unusual Christmas ornaments.
Edited to add that I also love unusual marbles and have an antique coffee tin "Caswells" full of marbles.

Do they really? I need a coffee table! Thanks!
I have one Duncan table with brass claw feet that is an original. I am sitting at it right now.
I have an embarrassing star trek collection... oh yea, plates and all.

Pins are the only thing I actively collect. I try to get one from every place I visit. I take a lot of pictures these days so I guess that could count. Microphones - I have almost 20. They're all cheapies except for a couple.
Other than that, CDs and books.
My legos, baseball cards, and comic books are tucked away safely at my parents'. :)

Antique bottles!!! I'm obsessed.
Antique glass paperweights
Antique stoneware (when it's not hundreds of dollars)
Local historical things
Old records.
Used to collect old alarm clocks,
old cameras,
rocks and fossils,
Indian artifacts,
bricks,
pins,
buttons,
rubber stamps,
telephone insulators,
antique marbles,
armadillo things,
and just about everything else. I still pick them up when it's a really good deal.
I, too, am a serious packrat. I never throw anything away, ever. Not even old clothes that don't fit anymore or old deodorants that have just a little left in them that I can't get out. Who knows when I might need something?
S, what type of bottles do you have?

Goo Goo Dolls CDs...haha, yes, I have two for "Dizzy Up the Girl" but that's just because my parents found it for me in a garage sale.
Gundam Wing manga, cause I love it, but, I am not too rich...so, not many for now.
Aside from that...nothing much really, I have a collection of some J-POP and SMILE magazines but that's about it...I am not too big on collecting...not too big on too many possessions (sp?) either.

clothwise of course the obligatory shoes and Jeans...

I collect gelpens, I love the colors and they always come in handy for art projects. I collect wine bottles that I used ;) I used to have a sticker collection but I got bored with it. I guess you cansay that I collect art supplies so I will always have the materials I need to do an awesome project. Oh Yeah! How could I forget! I collect model airplanes. I love airplanes. I have some hanging from my ceiling.
I used to be into WhiteWings (http://www.whitewings.com/) when I was a kid.
Now I'm a licensed pilot, but can't afford to collect airplanes. :( :)

I had some of those, way back in middle school... I couldn't get mine to work. They got kinda warped from too much glue or something. Plus the edges looked like crap. Oh well.
Yea...they never did last long. I just liked putting them together. All my plastic models had random glue smears all over them too. :D

I freaking hated plastic models. I have this one relative that always sent me one for Xmas... and I'd never finish the stupid things. I could get them put together (usually) but the paint job never turned out right.
I never saw the point in buying expensive pens. You're just out that much more when you lose it... get a twelve pack. They still write.

I'm starting to collect antique furniture. I have ONE antique bottle, it used to hold barbeque smoke and it still smells like it! *drools*
I collected rocks and bugs when I was little..and I've always collected books. I also collect pretty leaves in the fall and then press them, but they end up looking crappy so I throw them away.

oh yeah... pens!! I just love those made by Sensa...besides that I really love the design of the smaller one ("Minx"): maybe one day I'll get the chance to test them in outerspace... :D

I had some plastic model airplane kits when I was a young kid. Being quite the odd kid, though, I kept them in the original boxes and never put them together. Somehow I had the sense that they'd be collectible some day.

I really need to use the "search" function more often. . . there are many high-quality posts buried in this forum. :)
Here are a few of my prized collections:
Old glass insulators from telephone polls; I have one dated from 1812
Arrowheads and potsherds from S. Utah
A Set of 1993 Marvel trading cards, baseball cards, and a set of Lion King Trading Cards (dont' ask, but ZeroAngel's . . .post about birth order and the fact that I'm the only girl might explain a bit)
Wheat pennies, buffalo-head nickles, various other "old" forms of money, including a pre-1900 dollar bill
A rather hefty collection of illustrated science and history reference books
Another rather hefty collection of philosophy/new age books
My "cool" rock collection (as in rocks)
An almost complete collection of all books ever written by Koontz, Grisham, Jeffrey Deaver, Ray Bradbury, and Michael Crichton
Because the present is inextricably linked to a sense of the past, INTPs tend to hoard items which help solidify the connection to the past. They find it very difficult to let go of anything they have collected (or indeed created) and which may have a nostalgic meaning. They assume that any object which is of interest now is bound to remain of interest for the rest of their lives. This emphasizes a strong sense of universality in the progression of time, just as it emphasizes the seriousness with which INTPs approach their interests. Frivolity is not in their vocabulary. INTPs often love keeping lists and databases in areas of interest, especially when the lists are associated with things of the past. Collecting periodical magazines or other media of interest is also a very common INTP trait. Such a collection is usually taken very seriously. Yet the collective whole, considered as a temporal rather than spatial object, always assumes more importance in the mind of the INTP than the objects forming the collection themselves.
So very true.
Another interesting thing I've noticed is that I cannot *cannot* stand to throw away paper (like half-empty notebooks). It's really really wierd. I have paper that is years (maybe a decade) old, but my (warped) reality tells me that *maybe* some day the world will experience a shortage of paper, at which time I'll have enough for whatever I need to write down. So (anyway), I guess you could say I collect blank pieces of paper.

I throw away paper all the time. Be mean to trees is my motto! (damn trees, replenishing the earths oxygen)
I collect books and dvds. That's about it.
I used to have all my old school notebooks and stuff from growing up, but I had to throw them all out because I have been moving around too much over the past couple years and it just became a pain in the ass.
Geoff
25 Jan 2005, 10:52 PM
Wow, indiejade, some of that stuff is very possession orientated for an INTP.
I can see the interest in the old stuff, myself. Mainly because I like to mentally put myself in the place of the original owner or time and feel how it must have been to have or see that thing when it was new.
Don't collect anything here. Like many INTPs I get enthusiastic about something long enough understand the 'rules' and then walk away.

Seriously, I'm starting to doubt that there is anything that can be collected that I haven't collected at some stage. Stamps, coins, rocks, shells, stickers, capsules, posters, porcelain figures, stuffed animals, cactus plants...you name it. Usually I tire of it pretty quickly though, so most of my collections end up stashed away in boxes in the garage.
I'm quite proud of my collection of wooden horse figures though - it's a bit unusual and I have lots.

I have a bunch of Star Wars junk, esp. Boba Fett related, and have accidentally started a bit of a rad sunglasses collection. I still have boxes upon boxes of Magic cards, but they're basically just sitting there out of nostalgic attachment.
And like my friend booyalab, I collected rocks when I was a tyke. Not special ones, mind you, just pebbles I thought were "cool." I was rather young.

Most of you collect such normal things. Not that I haven't collected similar things over time - stamps, books, magazines, Legos, cards, rocks, and so on. But lately I've been trying to collect stranger things. Like lint, and toenail clippings. Currently I'm collecting those free little ketchup packets.
I currently have 22 packets, and just started within the week. Whenever I go to a cafeteria that has them, I grab a small number. Just large enough to add significantly to the collection, but small enough not to attract attention. A friend just contributed some more today, and he was less concerned with attention, so I about doubled my collection. :D
Yes, it's weird, but there's all sorts of fun things one can do with ketchup packets. Many mischievous things. Many involving pranks.
I've said too much.

I collect confetti. I don't go out and buy it, but if I recieve confetti as a pretty thing in a mailed letter, or if I am at a party and there is confetti on the table, or if I see confetti on the ground, I pick it up and keep it. I do not know why I started doing this, but I enjoy it. My collection is rather small I suppose.
I also guess you could say that I collect CDs. I love having a variety of music. I have numerous CDs, some bought, some burned, some given to me. I'll take whatever I can get. Usually I only buy or burn things of significant interest to me.

Well, it's all about the connection with the past. The rocks, arrowheads, glass insulators. . . those are all things I found with my dad (who recently passed away). We'd go drive out into the middle of nowhere in mountains or desert, walk around, and see what we could find. Sentimental, a bit, but still "typical" for the INTP collector who forges a connection to the past through a collection of objects.

Plus, quite of few of your found objects seem to be tools of some sort, quite like an INTP.
