Hipster!

:whyi:

Oh come now, an appreciation of absurdity and incongruity doesn't make someone a hipster. On top of that, I have little to no appreciation for anachronism, and look far too much like a jock to ever pull off the hipster aesthetic.

I know, and I just spent the last post vehemently defending myself from an accusation that I'm a hipster, which I guess is really the final nail in the coffin.

:offtopic:, but I do agree with you though, it's infuriating how many trendsters/hipsters/indiefucks call it just pabst (a somewhat solid majority where I am, even, which is sad) and have no idea they're being dipshits. Which is indicative of the thing that is the foundation for my actual, real life honest to god genuine not-just-social-backlash hatred of hipsters: as an archetype, their interest in any one subject is almost purely aesthetic, and as such they rarely have enough of an investment in the objects they are appropriating to develop a genuine competence.

Lol! Yeah, that makes sense. Well, that is my natural voice. I sound like a 10 year old girl. Now, when I answer the phone at work, I purposely lower my pitch and make it louder to sound "professional". I debated wether to do that, but I decided I would just be my natural self.

So you thought it was cute?

Thanks! I'll dig up a compliment from anywhere.;) And I wouldn't feel it to be a compliment if I had "faked" it. So, I was just being me, and was going to take whatever comments came my way, even if they were negative; like "WTF? You're how old? Six?" etc.

It's funny - your voice simultaneously sounds young and old at the same time. It does sound a bit like a 10 year old girl but at the same time, you clearly sound like an adult as well, and an adult older than 30 or 40 at that. If that makes sense.

Very pleasant tone and what not. You've got one of those voices that would work well for one of those guided relaxation sort of things.

Also, I second that thing about CreativeChaos sounding both young and old at the same time. It's interesting.

Limey just sounds about as typically British as I imagined him. Those 3 are the only ones I've heard so far.

"Yes, I'm aware I'm mumbly."

Believe me, when I'm speaking to a friend or someone I feel comfortable around, I also tend to mumble quite a bit. With other people I don't know quite as well, or if it's just business, I just get self-conscious and try to enunciate my words properly, kind of like in your second sample.

And now, I'm wondering what your voice is like while singing~

I figure long gaps of silence in conversation are awkward as I try to organize my thoughts for output, so that's what the "ums" are for, I suppose.

My problem is the thinking speed. Grabbing something out of the torrent of thought feels extremely difficult sometimes -- more so because I have difficulty vocally articulating. Writing isn't a problem; I can usually immediately transfer my thoughts to a written format, without pause. TL;DR: Speaking sucks.

Oddly enough, I don't have the same problem singing (because I don't really treat words as words but a series of different tonal qualities and methods of playing the vocal instrument).

Uh...this is for Digital Streetfighter. He sent me this video on how to speak with a British Accent.

So here is my response: :p

LOL. Good effort my dear lady, snobbishness and all. You were surprisingly convincing.

I'll have to tell my friends of this when we next meet for tea and scones at Betty's Tea Room.

Lol! Thanks! I tried to be super snobby and posh and all. Drank gallons of tea before I figured out, the guy wasn't really changing his accent! ;)

No more tea for me. Scones sound good though! With Coke! Lol!

Noise reduce much?

For this thread? No. I was sitting in front of a fan and an air conditioning compressor. And I was recording through the shitty mic on this laptop. I could have taken the effort to find a relatively silent spot and record it with my digital voice recorder to upload, etc. But I didn't. By special request, I might do it, or forget.

one is just a demo, the other is a song i recorded with a friend awhile ago.

It's really nice. 24 bit / 96khz w/ two built in condenser mics. USB 2.0. 4GB flash memory. Perfect for small jobs.

Anyway, I wanted to see how it handled a regular speaking voice, up close in a relatively noisy room.

Not my normal cadence at all, it's Emily Dickenson. I'm sure I read it badly, and half the dashes are meant to be read in this odd NF-ish fashion.

I live in trondheim. I'm from a little south of geilo. That's not my dialect. It's practising, in bokmål while driving. It's way fake still. Needs polish.

I suspect you thought I was from oslo(as I seem to remember that you are from). Trøndersk is really to ugly for me to comfortably adapt.

You just has to change her name to something very ethnic and obscure, possibly Indian, and CBC would totally hire you.
If they ask about the name you have to come up with a new age answer about how you came to the epiphany that your spirit truly lies with the Indian people after your extensive world travels.

Oh yeah and your reading was a bit too quick.

gator
1 Nov 2010, 02:30 AM
Yeah, I know. It's the curse of having such an Anglo sounding name. My friend got a job at the CBC. I'm convinced that it's because her parents are hippies and gave her a really cool name.

And I agree. I'm talking way too fast.
