Hi, I'm new here (actually, I've been reading other posts. I guess I'm a voyeur!). I'm also an extreme example of INTP. I was wondering, how did you guys find out the percentages for each letter?
(FOr example, some people's signatures have
X% I X%N X% T X%P ...)
Kalamazoo is one of the coolest named places in the US.
this test (http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp) gives percentages

"Kalamazoo" might sound fascinating, but trust me, it's one of the most boring, most ISTJ towns ever!
at least it has a cool name though

Welcome. I wonder why you say you're one of the most extreme examples of an intp. Why do you think that?

Despite having them down there - I actually don't have much faith in these %ages - using the link above I get very different numbers to the one below.
Welcome by the way. There is also a Kalamazoo near Northfield in Birmingham, England - its not very exciting.

Thanks! I just said that I'm an "extreme INTP"--before taking that test--because the descriptions are so eerily accurate. And I guess we do have a good library (one of my favorite nerd hangouts ever).
are you your avatar?
either way, I agree with esteban

Eh, I wouldn't say that I'm an extreme example of an INTP, but more of an "average" one. From what I've seen, the more extreme examples don't match the personality type as well, because they tend to be very unbalanced, IMO. I'm 56% preference Introvert, 65% Introvert, 65% Thinker, and 22% Perception. A lot of what I've read is dead on in how it describes me, but I definately would not say I'm an extreme example of one.

The percentages are far more precise than they are accurate. I don't think the preferences can accurately be described other than by saying "extreme", "moderate", or "slight". I would agree that someone who is extreme on most or all of the four letters would likely be unbalanced and might not entirely fit the descriptions. The profiles were developed by observing large numbers of people, so I would suspect that they would be most accurate for those whose preferences are in the moderate range.
In my case, I'm I (moderate), N (extreme), F (slight), P (moderate). I haven't paid much attention to the preferences that some of these tests will give. My extreme N does cause some imbalance and strange behavior. As a result, I am consciously trying to develop at least a little S to balance things out better.

I'd say I'm an average INTP who's slightly more extreme when it comes to introversion & thinking, and I'm a strong P. My intuition/sensing is fairly balanced though and sometimes I contemplate the possibility that I'm really just a confused ISTP... but I always decide on intuitive when I question it. Maybe my sensing function's just well-developed or something.
"A boring ISTJ town..." haha, I just imagined a whole town of ISTJs. I wonder what that'd be like. Or if all of the types had their own towns. Or even their own countries. Imagine what different laws each type'd have...
I think posting your percentages is more of a pissing contest than anything else. Like anyone can be more or less INTP than anyone else.
As for all the descriptions you read, they are just a stereotype based on the observations of a few people according to a rough outline they obtained from a guide that may or may not be correct on the behaviors of humans, which given all the other typing systems out there, may or may not be able to fit in one of sixteen categories.
I wouldn't waste your time with it. You'll get more out of being in the library.

I grew up right outside of Kalamazoo... most boring may be overstating it, but yeah, it is pretty dull. Although the Sweetwater Doughnut place off Sprinkle Rd has good doughnuts.

Belated welcome, Pooja :)
Sweetwater Doughnut off Sprinkle Road...sounds like a street where you'd find the Gingerbread House and Snookums Candy Shop, too. :)

Hullo fellow Michigander. Grand Rapids isn't too far from you, I think. Last time I went there, it wasn't too boring, though Kalamazoo is certainly boring (I used to live in Jackson and visited some people in Kalamzoo from time to time... not much to do there, nor in Coldwater :/ ). Hey! At least there's a ski hill near you!! :)
