It might be the nasty hangover, or something else entirely affecting my judgement on a news article, but this (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20051202/AIDS02/TPInternational) is something that I find at once perversely interesting, discomforting, and confusing.

Peversely interesting in the fact that the beauty contest is cleverly named. Though discomforting and confusing in the idea that there has to be a better way to generate publicity and awareness than making a public spectacle of a few women.

And the idea of sexual objectification, which is what most beauty pageants are about, really doesn't fit well, here.

Maybe I just need to go back to bed. This'll make better sense when I'm feeling human again, I'm sure.

It's definately interesting. And there are better ways...unless it's a way to get the people that test positive to come out, so they can be put on a list, and removed from the public. I come away from reading that with a basic..."that was different, yet interesting article," with no real opinion on the matter. Hence, it will be something I place out of my mind entirely in less than a week, until some sort of conversation comes up and can bring that article up as an example.

Hm, it does seem to be several disturbing issues, usually distinct -- one would think incongruous, all rolled into one.

Sort of a one stop shop for the seamy side of the human psyche, eh?
