A: Johnny is an idiot. So is Sam.
(in other words, that question makes no sense, so I am going to use my stock answer)

Yes, the experiments on what happens to (animal) children who don't recieve love and attention.
That was the saddest thing I ever read in that book, and the book was pretty full of sad things.

Yes, and it wasn't an accident.

*tries to remember name of dude that did the experiment in question, and fails...*
I think what the experiment proved was that the monkey had needs other than food. They had a wire mother (in back) and a cloth mother (the one in front.) The monkey got all of its food from the wire mother, but spent almost all of the rest of its time with the cloth mother, which did nothing except be warm and fuzzy.

NOVA did a show featuring that very experiment back in the late 70's (early 80's ?). If I recall correctly, it went beyond just watching which surrogate the monkey gravitated to. I think they had seperate groups; one with warm, inviting, fuzzy "mommys" and another group with the cold, wire "moms". The group of monkeys provided with wire mothers (which shocked the poor baby from time to time) wound up with stunted growth and severe behavior problems.
I believe the gist of the research was to prove that touch is critical to the health of infants, which is why "touch therapy" is common practice in premie wards today.
