Hi there,

After doing a personality test I am found to be INTP!
I am quite impressed by the results because the description fits me perfectly.
Just getting into the whole online web community thing,
seems like the perfect place to meet simmilar people if INTP's
are indeed just 3.3% of the population.

Hello,
I'm just wondering where you got the 3.3% number. Is it from a specific study? I've heard anything from under 1% to 5%.

PsiKik... so are you psychic ? there have been members who have shared some of their 'paranormal' experiences..
where are you from?
what direction is your life going?

Hi,
I got the 3.3% figure for the INTP population from this site

http://similarminds.com/embti.html

It consists of a variety of personality tests.

Actually Im not "psychic" in the paranormal sense - I'm a skeptic as far as that goes.
I mean "psychic" as in the the mind, all thingsmental etc..

Actually very well at the moment, you?

I am felling better than in a long time.
I have read that one of the INTP traits is fear of catastrophe or such like.
My #1 irrational fear of becoming homeless seems unlikely now as my job seems secure - I'm a software programmer - after the
problems in the technology sector a few years back.

weird... I always thought (and still think) that this is one of the worst possible scenarios for me too...

I have been reading the posts in this forum and am quite
amazed, I cannot believe the simmilarities!

After reading this I thought I would provide a decent introduction.

1) my handle, PsiKik, does not mean I am into the paranormal
I am actually a skeptic as far as that goes, though if someone
showed me objective evidence or I had personal experience
of such things I would change my mind.
I mean psychic as in the realm of the mental, where I spend most of my time.

2) I work as a computer programmer. I taught myself to do this
because it is the one of the most interresting subjects I can imagine,
creating things in the realm of thought.
I also write software for fun, though as a typical INTP once I have solved the central problem
I move on to something else. i.e. I have many unfinished programs. See #6.

3) I live in a small conservative(bad) town which shall remain nameless
until I know you better. The only reason I would want to live in a city is
for the chance of meeting people.

4) One hour on my mountainbike and I am in complete wilderness.
I do this as often as I can.

5) I have not learned to drive, though I have succumbed to social pressure
and am geting my licence in November.

6) My greatest hobby is music - I play keyboards and mess around with
sound synthesis software. I like this because the computer is an
ideal assistent to the musical process. I have never played anyone
one of my compositions, though this may change now that I seem to have found like minded people here.

7) I am an atheist though I have a spiritual side.

8) I did not do well at school except for Math and English.
Once I was suspected of somehow cheating at Math because I had gotten
an A on the test and D for everything else. They made me redo the test.
Truth is I had just discovered how I could use trigonometry
in a game I was writing( an asteroids clone) and had decided to study hard.

9) The traits I value most in people are honesty, rationality, fairness.
I detest people who like to flaunt wealth and status with expensive cars and suchlike.

10) If I could do anything else I would be a sci-fi writer, though my fear of being
poverty stricken and homeless keeps that at bay. Philip K. Dick warned
that if you choose to be a writer expect poverty.

11) I am not materialistic, as long as I have enough to satisfy the
basic needs I'm basically happy.

Finding out that I am an INTP, an identifiable personality type has answered
many questions and has clarified a lot of things that have caused
considerable grief and problems for me in the past.

Thishas now become my major area of interest and I want to find out as
much about what this means as I can.
Some of the aspectsI will want to find out are:
-what are the personality types I am compatible with
-if there are any negative aspects to being INTP that can
be improved, worked on, like Fe.
-How I can use this to form better relationships with people

etc...

what languages do you program in ? I do php/mysql/javascript.. php is EXTREMELY boring though mainly because I've done it for a year and my place of work hasn't decided to switch to being object oriented... I am getting into a lot of JavaScript fun lately though and it's a good switch.. I wish I could be learning C/C++, ASM, Python or Perl but... meh.. I learned everything I know about php/mysql/javascript from the web... an endless supply of information.
I regretted not obtaining my license at a younger age... the indepedence provided by driving is worth it... but you stated you live in a rural area so the benefits of driving may be less apparent(I live in a City/Surbuban-area).
> My greatest hobby is music
I love music but I can't play any worth a dime.
So instead I have a love for art.. which I would like to go into by doing computer generated art
What music software do you use? From what I've heard the 'best' one out there is Max/MSP:

I wish I could be learning C/C++, ASM, Python or Perl but... meh..

I try to keep a copy of my current language interest on the back of my toilet, that way I learn somethiing new everyday.

what languages do you program in ?

I program in whatever is appropriate for the job.
I have used in the past C,C++, and Visual Basic.

Currently I am creating Databases with the MySQL open source database system. I am creating apps to access it with VB, because VB is good for this kind of thing.

I am learning C# at the moment and quite like it. The compiler is free
and you can get a free IDE for it as well.

The music software I use is called Cakewalk, I have an old version
but it does what I want. I also use "Cool Edit" to edit sound. I am experimenting with something called "C sound" which is like a programing lanuage for creating sounds and then arranging them together to form compositions.

I love Cool Edit. Roots, ya know. I started with it and still judge my experiences by it.

Nuendo and Cubase SX are up there though. Acutally, I'm just happy my soundcard and software work together at this point...

Which reminds me. I need to make more music. I'm getting depressed since I haven't been lately. :P
