I know that from the last incarnation of this thread that lots of people were crushing to get to the meet up so I thought I'd repost the thread to once again hear how enthusiastic everyone is to meet up and to do some planning. (Plus to try to scrap back the 600 posts I lost !!!!!!!)
So Cambridge?
Around July ish?
Or at least summer?

Quite possibly perhaps. Depends how shy I feel at the time.
But since it's not Norfolk, it seems possible.

Hey man, go either way! I'm not gonna let some silly blogging feud from last month ruin a good time for myself and a bunch of "fellow" English INTP's. I'm a second-generation Englishman, and dammit I've had enough of this anti-INTP world as it is, not to mention all the non-English crap I put up with every day here in North America. Like FRENCH people? I have to share a fucking country with THOSE egomaniac lumberjacks, with their fancy chainsaws and palettable maple syrup? Like what a ripoff...
I have to go down anyways to visit my best friend who moved after high school and now writes scrolling headlines for BBC Newsnet (that's right- I'm totally down with the European celebrity circuit) and visit "family"....well, family, who I've never met....the ones who didn't leave as "warbrides"...so this sounds like a kickass third stop for my visit. Anyways; you can count me in.

Let's be honest with ourselves shall we? Nobody here (save Maniac<_< ) is your "fellow". As for a second generation Englishman, no, you're not an Englishman. You're just English. As am I. As an Irish (English, German, Dutch, Norwegian) American whose grandparents were citizens of Ireland, I currently have dual-citizenship with Ireland and the United States. I've lived here my whole life. I'd be a poser if I called myself an Irishman.

Look, REJECT, you're obviously not very skilled at interpereting what people mean by what they say, because it seems that you're always attacking someone for something they didn't actually say or imply. If you go back and read the part where I said "fellow", you might detect a little bit of sarcasm, unless you're too fucking dim to see it the second time around as well.

Damn it whats with the questions? How the hell should I know? <_< Oh right I'm organising.... same questions.
No idea at the mo. Any suggestions? I was really thinking of finding a pub that serves coffee with a garden that has a nice view. Never am really bothered by an "activity" or the like. I'd thought that in a group such as ours where we find enough to chat about to avoid work each week, all week, that we'd not have time for much else but as opinion is we'll need some distraction then I've no problem except inspiration.
Right all those who wanted additional stuff apart from drinks and talking, speak up with your ideas.

I live in Norwich,
Cambridge is about an hours 15 min drive, depending on which road into it we end up wanting!
Women are an effect bait for me though even more so if they live in Norwich most of the time...
Superstring? You're from the US aren't you? jsut to let you know, Britian may be tiny (geographically) but it's still futher from one place to the other than that! Could do it 20 mins in plane though! hmm it's about 60 to 70 miles, so as i said about 1hr 15 to 1hr 45.. (some of the roads are single carraigeway and there are roadworks at attleborogh which reduced the speed to 40!

If it's anice day, we could walk around the uni, and the uni garders (effectively a city park) the gardens are lovely the buildings are great, as long as most people wont suffer the sudden feeling of acedemic inadequacy that I will! ;)

I still don't get it. Why do people want something to do when the entire point is to meet people from the forum and chat?
I can see the idea behind stuff like go karting (just an example not a suggestion) where you have something else specific to do and meet people and chat incidentally and aside from the main activity but surely that for less cerebral groups? I'd have thought that as we all chat all week and have already given plenty of insight into our character then meeting would just be the last stage in getting to know people here and discussing further.
Anyhoo, I doubt that a walk will fit the bill.
In the interests of a 9 I asked my father what would be a suitable event for INTPs and he replied that it would have to be linked into something that YOUR interested in so unless I can get some ideas from people and we can get some kind of consensus then planning this could be a nightmare.
So whats the ideas people?
(Still think tea, scones and possibly some cucumber sandwiches would be a lot more appropriate. Hey we could play cricket!!!!!)

lol, the questions... hmm, I kinda agree with Moridin about walking through the gardens on the campus and/or maybe first going to the pub/coffee house, then bookstore exploring, and then gardens and then take our leave? Right just to keep this thing going, the meet up in Norwich (Ok it was only 4 people but still) only required a bar and and ashtray. What will we need for more people?
A focus for the meet up would be nice but it also causes headaches trying to think of something which will keep several mentally athletic people from becoming bored.
Has anyone come up with something other than a sport related focus (I'd imagine that there aren't many really athletic types on here!)?

I think trying to find a venue for Warhammer 40K or similar would be a pain in the ass. Cards would be fairly transportable and easy to set up.
I think the idea is to find something we can do wih the second half of our brains so that we're not entirely trapped into socialising. I don't have a problem with just meeting up for a drink and a chat but some seem to have objections to this.

Ok the plan is to go to cambridge, which is famous for having a university. You are also planning to go in July when most unis are closed. Know cov uni rents out its empty rooms during summer, or it did do. Why not look into renting out a room, if enough of us go then it might not be to expensive.
Also i dont think there be much drinking as most people will probably be driving there and i cant see INTPs drink driving. Now Moridon on th eother hand i think we will ahve to be careful about.

A# Someone has posted on here.
B# I cannot believe the number of people who spend large quantities of time doing nothing but posting on here now want something to do other than discuss???
:wtf:
Anyhow, start naming dates people. I can work round it. I still suggest Cambridge but if you fancy closer to the middle ground (I have no idea if we have anyone from Wales or anything) then Stratford is quite nice.
Either way we could do with at least refreshing the discussion about it!
As for a LAN party tinribz, I think it would be a nightmare to sort out which game to play nevermind how the hell we get a group of PC's all in the same place and all rigged up. I have a living room and a diningn room that'd hold perhaps 6 but I reckon we may get more than that.
Well BUMP!
ER can't do 7th July (which I think was first suggestion or 30th june or 18th august or 25th august and theres another date that has slipped my mind!
As for a LAN party I think that would have to be a major league effort not a day job, but atleast a long weekend!

Right this is getting silly now. As a date to consider how's about the 12th of August ?
Its a weekend, it's in the summer holidays (I think) and it's in Cambridge (unless someone can make a better suggestion at this late stage).
Answers on a PM to myself or Moridin or just post on here.
Entertainment :- Yourselves and ourselves.
Location :- Probably a pub or similar (beer garden would be a godsend). Drinking will be by participation and even if you don't then you should be able to laugh at Bob and Moridin getting plastered.

Well, technically, it just hasnt been arranged, yet I suppose. Perhaps we should plan to leave our invites in our wills, just in case.

Count me in. I hear RyanAir and EasyJet have started cheap flights between Morocco and the UK :yay:
Or, we can hold The Popular British Meet-Up in Morocco! That's right! When it's pouring down rain and the weather is depressing and miserable in the UK, you guys can head down to sunny Marrakech! It's become more like a little London anyway with all those cheap British tourists :D

Marrakech can get quite cold during winter actually...
The weather in Marrakech is sunny nearly all year round, with pleasantly warm summers and mild winters. The hottest months of the year are July, August and September, but there is no humidity so temperatures are generally bearable. Winter can bring heavy downpours of rain, which leave the streets of the old town very muddy, and winter nights can be cold.

Either way, there are plenty of other places, ranging from freezing cold (snow and all!) to hot and humid. Take your pick! We can alternatively just chill out at a pub in Casablanca :D

You know you'd just get a load of impressionists turning up!!
Anyhow you forgot the most important and I'm afraid that this puts you far out of the running thus far. you failed to mention the qualities and relative strengths of the local brand of tea. I know that we were all going to bring our own supply of PG Tips but that is hardly the point as at some stage we are bound to try the local brew or plain run out of tea bags and be forced to rely on it.
For your next campaign please bear in mind that we are British and as such demand special treatment. Thank you.

Last I was in Morocco, I had a choice of 'Lipton' tea or Mint tea. Mint tea wins hands down.
Then back to the UK for a real brew.

I have never been to a bar in Morocco (female and all), but anti smoking and Morocco seem very far apart it being the land of the best hashish.http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/cool0044.gif (http://www.thesmilies.com)

Well it's a pretty big country, Morocco. You don't necessarily have to run into any relative or aquaintance you know.
Oh you didn't. Tell me you didn't.
You know you'd just get a load of impressionists turning up!!

I assure you, tea (among other beverages) is not a problem at all. Many cafe's (including my uncle's) serve Twinings tea, flavoured as well. PG should be available at the supermarkets as well. As for local tea, basically it's very similar to green Chinese gunpowder tea (which you could probably get over there at Tesco's), with mint as an option.
For your next campaign please bear in mind that we are British and as such demand special treatment. Thank you.
You can count on it mate. I will personally see to it that all your demands are met and needs catered for. Basically, that you feel at home. I'll even put on my best (fake) British accent
PS - There are NO anti-smoking laws as of yet. Basically you can smoke anywhere you please. There are also plenty of English-style pubs with all your favourite beverages if you don't feel like taking risks ;)

Personally, after this small exchange, I think it is absolutely appauling the kind of treatment you get down in Morocco.
This guy seems an absolute pearl of a chap. No good reason stoning him like that.
Appauling behaviour.
Perhaps we should go over and teach them how to do things properly.

That's the English spirit! Even Jose "I am God" Mourinho can't deny it
Btw, I have devised some sort of contingency plan in case we don't get much of a conversation going on initially: dozens of long and tedious anti-Islamic articles, with the important bits highlighted in bold!* How exciting is that! :)
*OK that was a joke. The real contingency plan is to leave with Sahara, and wish you all a good time :)

Indeed...
A flaming sambuca is typically made by lighting the drink in a shot glass and allowing it to burn. The flame is then extinguished and the Sambuca is quickly drunk whilst still warm. one popular method is of extinguishment is placing the palm of the hand over the top of the shot glass, where suction is created causing the shot glass to "stick" to the hand. This is also potentially dangerous; if the flame is allowed to burn for too long, it will heat up the shot glass also - resulting in burn injuries to the hand.
A second popular but potentially dangerous party trick, referred to as a gas chamber, is to take a shot of Sambuca into the mouth and have someone light it. The flame is then extinguished by closing the mouth.

With lemonade it is, then.
I dont think it would burn so well with lemonade. Burning it is a waste anyway, as the flame burns the alcohol away (quite pointless, although showy).

Haha, believe me, anything is possible in Cambridgeshire. ;-)
And howdy to you!
Someone asked me about the Great British meet up and I suggested it hadn't died just need a J to organise it... they replied with this:
Regarding the 'J', that reminds me of an old Gary Larssen cartoon that shows a room full of sheep standing round aimlessly drinking wine at a cocktail party. Suddenly the door opens and a sheep dog walks in. One sheep turns to another and says 'The party's a disaster, no one knows what to do, no one knows what to say, they're all just standing round.....oh thank God for that, a sheep dogs just turned up!'
I thought it ammusing...
