I'm taking the GRE tomorrow. I'm a little peeved I have to take it, given that I've taken it before. However, my score is 6 months too old to count, so I'm doing it again. Now I've nearly forgotten math -- even really simple stuff -- given that I haven't really used it for the past 7 1/2 (grr) years. Especially irritating b/c I'm not going to need advanced math in the grad program to which I'm applying, so why test me on it anyway?

Hmpf.

Wish me luck, anyway.

How in the heck did two GRE threads start?!?

Weird.

Best of luck, Rajah. I've been struggling myself with studying for the GRE and GMAT ... along with whether I'll ever be going back to grad school to need them. Took the GRE once over a decade ago, so I know it won't count any more.

So which is it? 7 1/2 or 8 years? Which thread is the real thread?

...

I'm scared, Rajah! I don't know where to reply!

So I'll default to the one that hasn't been replied to, yet.

edit: Accursed watchful merghing moderators!

edit: Accursed watchful merghing moderators!Fine, I'll calculate. I started grad school in '97, so I took the test in mid-late '96? So, really, it's been 9 1/2 years? Crap!

Fuck it, I told you my simple math skills suck. :)

The average GRE math score is so much higher than the average GRE verbal score, I was in a similar percentiles for both despite scoring over a 100 points higher on the math section.

Thats exactly what I got, after the test I felt there was only one question that completely stumped me.

Supposedly high scores on the math section are very unspectacular, looking into econ grad schools I read you would need a minimum of a 780 just to stand a chance.

So how hard is the GRE? What's the best way to study for it? I'll be taking it in about a year.

So how hard is the GRE?Um, my impression is that the math is easier than the SAT, but the verbal is tougher.

What's the best way to study for it? I'll be taking it in about a year.I don't know. I bought a Kaplan book and reviewed the math section yesterday. Then I skimmed through the verbal part.

Are classes even worth it?

I suppose they are if you want to be accepted in most programs, aside for the GPA and classes-you-took bit.
