I'm new to the group and wanted to introduce myself.
I'm looking at changing careers so took the personality tests and initially tested as an INTJ. But the more research that I do, it's likely that I'm an INTP when I'm in a good mood and turn into an INTJ jerk when I'm most frustated with people and the world. Does this happen to other people too?

It's seems difficult to find other INTP and I usually end up feeling like I'm alone in a crowd with the general population so I'm looking forward to chatting and meeting some other INTPs.

Yes, welcome. I'm pretty much an INTP/J as well. I'm a J when I need to be. It's hard to know my true preference.

I'm picking up too much Sensor-like output from you to be able to think that INTP is your best-fit type, but INTJ is not ruled out.
You would be correct in that I normally "test" high in that catagory as well, but always an N is higher.

Welcome.

You've come to the right place for that.

Outside of the forum I don't actively look for intps, whoever I feel comfortable around works for me.

Yay! I'm happy so many women are INTP's.

I think my first MBTI test showed my P/J preference rather close, and I do see a frequent affinity to sensor-related stuff. Hard to say, but I think I flip-flop between INTP and INTJ sometimes, the J part more due to adaptation sake... having to hold my own in the world.

true... easier to act like an E or a J if you have to... never could make myself stop thinking though ;)

HI

I also test as and INTx. Over the years I have noticed that when I am confused, overwhelmed or approach a new project my J tends to come out. I make lists to organize my thoughts or as a general guideline so I don’t get too far off track (that P thing). I agree with spirilis though. I think this is an adaptation.

Once I'm comfortable then the P comes on strong and I start having a lot of fun. Because the P comes out when I relax, I tend to think of myself as an INTP. That is also the one that best describes me.

I'm definitely not a strong P, but I think it is stronger then the tests indicate. The tests keep asking if I make lists, but they don't ask if I follow them.

In any case, WELCOME.

The most recent test put me as an INxP...very close on Thinking/Feeling, which seems about right. Just ask hairlessbluetick. ;P

I've heard once that P's make lists but don't follow them. I'm not sure how true this is. I do make lists sometimes but their more guidelines and to help me remember WHAT I wanted to do.

And a welcome to the forum for Lauriep.

I am pretty close to the T/F border as well. Sometimes I wonder if I am in fact an INFP in disguise. I am too sensitive for my own good. Which is why I drink.

Ditto on the T/F border and sensitivity. Quitting drinking (for me) had a way of fucking with my reality... or lack thereof.

There are times I wonder if I'm a closet extravert ............ I am not the same person I am in my head.

welcome lauriep, I'm also pretty close on the P/J side, probably because I tend to get into routines and not be very spontanious.

It's funny, I tend to make list a lot too but never seem to really follow through. I always figured I just didn't have very good willpower.
I live in S. Virginia (AKA Redneck Central) but I have moved around a lot and am looking to go back west in a few years.

I'm currently working full time (yuck!) but really thinking about trying to go back to school full time.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

Howdy lauriep!

When looking for INTPs in a crowd, look in all corners of the room, against the walls, in the hallways, closets, or just don't look near a crowd at all. I know I stay away from those things. I can share your feeling on looking forward to finding other INTPs. The same day I figured out about MBTI, was the same day a took a few tests, and then found this place. I felt like woohoo, if that can be interpreted as an emotion.

Welcome to our forum.
