As asked, here is the explanation for my name. Or to be more precise, the numbers after my name.
It all started about 2 years ago. A good friend of mine had stumbled across a Neverwinter Nights (pc rpg) roleplaying server (or to be more precise, a community which had numerous servers and tried to re-create a whole world on them). This was called ALFA (http://www.alandfaraway.net/).
Now, the problem here was that you had to put in a player application (as you still have to if you poke around the webpage). This required an email address and you could only supposedly apply once, as all other applications would be noted as having the same email address and you would not be considered again if you were turned down the first time.
Now, I was a bit of a newbie to the whole neverwinter nights scene (let alone the whole roleplaying scene...). Therefore I was unable to talk about my roleplaying expereince much, as it was pretty much non existant.
I was (as my friend was too) turned down in our applications. So I started a cunning plan. This consisted of getting another new email address and trying again, but applying with a different name, purpose and everything else.
My friend at the time had an aol email address which he had
'0172d' after his name. This was because he tried to sign up as his name, which was already taken; and quickly clicked 'yes' on the new suggested name without even looking.
I in my haste saw his email address, and quickly nabbed the ending, changing it slightly to use at yahoo. It was after all only supposed to be a temporary email address while I signed up.
I succeeded in my application that time, only to find out that the whole thing was in my eyes - quite abismal really. There was too much hardcore roleplaying and not enough action for me. So I wandered away, and the email address started to stick - as it was being used by me when I signed up to things, so as to take all the spam and stuff I didn't want. Therefore leaving my other email address I had before intact :).
I started using the name 'Sam0172e' on a couple of websites before it slowly started to become condensed over time. I started using it more and more, instead of my other online pseudonyms (which included 'Barona', 'Wonko', 'Cajist', 'Sung Lue Chang Kong Sang' and 'Cheny'). All of those I had used on online games (of which I had started playing a good 5 years ago), forums and webpages up to now.
'Sam172' seemed more acceptable than my favorite name at the time - 'Wonko'. Namely because so many other people were called Wonko (naturally it's plagiarism of 'Wonko the Sane' from 'The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy' (no coment on my hotmail address being 'wonko_the_insane@ hotmail... of course ¬_¬)). 'Barona' was my new adopted gaming title, although people did realise that I nabbed it from one of the Shanarra series'. 'Sam172' became the sort of non-gaming related name I would use.
Of course, 'Sam172' is not too frequently used, as a quick google search would show you. Most of the first page are where I have used that name ^_^.
So there you go, my name in a nutshell. :D
