I mean what the heck, Are we implying that anyone who is an INTP probably needs some kind of social interaction with similar people or what.
And how will you prevent non-intp's to show up to your meetings. If sufficient number of all kinds of people show up its not an INTP meeting anymore. Its just a mish mosh of random people.
With something like photography or gardening we can easily tell if the person is interested or not, With meetups of personality-types it becomes complicated. Its like saying, lets meet because we have a bulging cerebral cortex -- something you can't prove easily. I think instead of a meetup we should all put our aim or yahoo sns into one big pot or xml file and check to see if someone likes talking, but we already have irc for that.....

The point of a meetup is to get to meet people you see on a daily (or regular anyway) basis on this board and might be curious or interested in knowing the person behind the nickname. It is not supposed to be an INTP conspiracy against the world.
And of course, it is not compulsory to attend...

Well if its the same people on this board then its great. I thought its just a random invitation to any intp out there. Like looking for vampires.

We are implying they might enjoy a break from their computer screen.

Must non-INTPs be prevented from attending?

wow, just like the real world. scary thought. perhaps meetups should be held in secluded caves, everyone wears robes. maybe chant some intp incantations...

Must non-INTPs be prevented from attending?I wouldn't think so. I know some people's 'significant others' have attended. I think the majority of people at the meeting should be regulars here, but I would have no problem meeting with some of the non-INTP regulars here. Some of the NF's are downright charming, and INTJ's are practically my bretheren.

I didn't say we prevent them from attending just to make it INTP exclusive, but that some of us cannot tell if one is or isn't one. Given that, there is no way of determining if its a real INTP meetup or just a collection of random people.

Um.... you missed the last meetup - it was decided that it IS a conspiracy against the world.

I'm going to take a total stab in the dark and suggest it has more to do with matching people with their online personas and less to do with relating to the people.

I suspect meet-ups are really orgies. Which explains why I've never been to one.

My purpose in making a meetup was to actually meet the people I talk to and listen to. It'd be nice to not miss the other 80% of communication for a while. Plus conversations are alot quicker in real time and if you don't want to talk to the people on here then why post at all?
Personaly I enjoy interaction in real time more than having to type everything.
Mind you I like the orgies idea and i'm sure some people wanted some sort of specific activity???
I figure the idea was to put a face, experssions, body language etc to a handle!
It would be cool, would I introduce myself as Moridin or..............
I think it may be better to refer to them as INTPc meet ups! hence avoid the beginings of a movement for political change based on mbti type!

I went to the DFW meet up because there are so few people to relate to in Texas (for me at least) and upon discovering the proximity of cool people - I had to meet them at least once. It was better than expected. YOu see - being in texas is like being in a different country - you are disconnected from what's going on in the rest of the U.S. so it was nice to meet the local INTP crowd.
DC - I thought this was going to be the same - but someone slipped ruffies in my drink and the next thing I knew I was in Union Station singing "Dancing in the Rain" and almost getting arrested. Not at all a bad experience.

after you talk to ESFP's all the time you pretty much crave anything but talk about how fast cars go. i seriously have told my friends cars are boring and i hate talking about how a suburu wrx sti can go 0-60 in 5.6 seconds. They wont stop! it never stops with the cars! someone talk about something else please!
this is meant as face-to-face conversation

It would be much better to have something definite to do, like climb a mountain or play d&d and get drunk.

the problem is they care nothing for the mechanics of a car and only about how fast it goes, and they like cars that only look good to them while dismissing others. It drives me crazy how they find the differences between new BMWs so important. they all look the same!

Hmmm thats the typical kind of response to a Smart car really!

Now I'd have to disagree with you here based on the fact I love the new M5 but can't stand the M6.
This would be the kind of differences though that I'd like to discover in a meet up. Peoples interests and dislikes are interesting and quite illustrating about the person. Plus demeanour will provide real information in to what tone to read into posts.
