Does race really depend upon skin colors?
Does anything called race actuallly exist ?
Anything to say ?

I've heard of races of giants and races of pygmies. Jews are called a race, but to me they don't look much different.

Race means something, it means your family came from some area. Race isn't always genetic.

Actually there are some groups that have been moved from one catagory to another.
Race is simply a concept we thought up.

Loosely it refers to "tribe," a social group of origin, usually related distantly by blood - like the Jews, for instance - but sometimes referring to a nation. That's the old meaning, before people started doing the whole skin color thing to keep as many "others" out as possible.

That may have been the original intention, but now, in our cultural melting pot of a country..it's easier to draw distinctions between people based on the color of their skin than on their social group since Europeans were also encouraged to lose their heritage upon moving to America.

Yeah, the tribes are all mixed up now.

I don't think I can stand another web discussion about race; smug bien pensants loving everybody versus wild-eyed racialists hating everybody.
Both lots are merely about self-approval.

[ And yes, America is a melting-pot; but a/ the rest of the countries in the world aren't and don't want to be, and b/ America won't exist as a nation in 100 years time. All things pass ).

Will you be aound to care?
There is more genetic difference between tall people and short people than there is between people of different races. The thing that needs to happen is for people to stop caring.

Of course they do/would. How many times have you said to yourself 'Grr... freaking Sensors (or whatever.) " There are plenty of things to generalize about that aren't visual.

Because after the nations of NAFTA merge to become the new Roman Empire, the name will change.

Okay, nobbly fuzzy green person. Anyone remember a book called The Giver? You were probably forced to read it in high school if you live in the US... they made everyone blind. If we were all vegetables we'd hate the stupid people or the robots keeping us alive.

I don't remember...

They were the only ones who had long term memory, and they were kinda regarded as shamans or something... it's been a while since I read that book.
Really, I think the best way to unite humanity, as a whole, would be to get in some kind of war with a bunch of aliens. As long as you don't have tentacles, you're okay.

Claverhouse, why did you say, "All things pass?"
If all things pass, you are not omitting anything else. However, I think you would mean to omit other things, otherwise the sentence preceding "All things pass" is rendered meaningless, and what you subconsciously said is:
"All good/powerful/special things pass."
And, that whole [ .. ) section seemed to be a retaliation after an attack perceived as "Your country is not a melting pot!" Because no one said that America being a melting pot was good or made America better than any other country, and you used the word "but" as if that is what was argued.
Therefore I am led me to believe you are jealous of America! Ahahahahahahaha.
As was often said in the recent film, Team America:
AMERICA
FUCK YEAH!

Claverhouse, why did you say, "All things pass?"
I would have to delve into the roots of Greek pessimistic/realistic philosophy which is our common parent: and I don't wanna do that.
If all things pass, you are not omitting anything else. However, I think you would mean to omit other things, otherwise the sentence preceding "All things pass" is rendered meaningless, and what you subconsciously said is:
"All good/powerful/special things pass."
No, all - things- pass. That is it. In 200 years time, everyone now alive will be dead. In 2000 years time, every part of our present civilisation will be rotting. In 2000 million years time, the earth will be far nearer the centre of the sun than will be comfortable for relaxing on the beach.
In another way of putting it from an old radio comedy of a screaming jewish mum, concerned over her kids' tardiness: 'The bagels aren't fit to eat: you want to know why ? Why didn't they find bagels at the site of Troy ? I'll tell you why. Because bagels don't last forever !'.
Jealous of what ? Apart from the Works of James Branch Cabell, there is nothing America has produced that I want or value.* I'm sure it's splendid for those born there, and I wouldn't expect anything else; but China has created many more splendid things and is a great country: I wouldn't want to live there though. Or America.
When I said 'but', I was pointing out that American solutions of race-mixing and universal immigration may be fine for a comparatively new continent, however they are not suited ( without future race-wars ) to more stable countries such as in Europe or Asia with fairly stable racial groups.
The North American continent will be carved up into far different and presently unimaginable countries after a century or so. Aztlan being but one. Further there will be considerable unrest before that, if only due to the oil-shortages and the coming water conflicts: why else do you think your by no means completely unintelligent government is building so many 'holding-camps' for future needs ?

Aha! Good ! Good!
It has occurred sometimes that I speak an opinion and others take it seriously and sort of "let it go" and don't even defend themselves or propose a contrary opinion as if they were afraid of me. >_> Well, I am God, after all.
I still don't get why you had to say "All things pass." Because, it states something that is ass-pain obvious.
If all things pass, that goes for every other country as well, which is what I meant by 'you would not be excluding anything.' And you repeated this again, "All -things- pass." This includes all of Europe, Belgium, grasshopers, etc.
When something is said that excludes nothing, I question why it was said, especially coming from someone with this particular temperament who is supposedly hateful of redundancy (something as obvious as 'all things end' does not require stating, at least in a non-cosmological context.) That's all. :D
But I guess you are saying you are making some sort of allusion. All righty.
As far as what you could be jealous of: The fact that America is recognized as powerful in various ways when it does not seem to have much to make it be seen as that.
Claverhouse

America is --- justly --- powerful because it has vast extent, vast resources and a massive population. Like Russia it has to have vast power in order to maintain these and extract what it wants from these. I just wish it wouldn't keep spreading freedom and democracy everywhere. Particularly with bombs.
OK, I would prefer that it wasn't in it's paramount position, partly for balance and partly because some other larger countries should have a decisive role to play directing the world ( not Britain: our leaders are clods ); but since Germany can no longer take on such an equal role, as would have been proper considering it's placement in Europe and history ( same with Italy ); Europe is possibly finished; and I'm afraid it's going to be the Chinese who will vie for dominance.
As for redundancy, many yanks on other Forums appear to think that America's present position was foreordained and sealed by God Himself, and that adoration of America and it's ideals is mandatory upon the whole human race: as it is now and ever will be. That all institutions are transient does not appear on their mental registar.

I feel the whole issues is being taken out of context wrt the thread.
Americans, as far as the rest of the world is concerned is a big bully who gets his way, but can also be kind at times but not often.Lets give them some credit they have done some nice things.
The major grouse being about raciality, i think the race of a person is no longer an index of any sort as all the races have intermingled so much.ethnicity though is still being used, though in a politically correct way, much the same as racism was to differentiate between otherwise the same people.
The whole point is that no one cares any more, its just the people with agendas of their own[politicians, anthropologists,..] who keep this issue alive.Im sure most of us dont give a damn what race we , or the person next to us are.
