View Full Version : Radical definitions of INTP or the brutal truth?

Just found a site that has brutal, cynical descriptions of the authors
perceived ideas of INTP subtypes. There could be truth in this
or maybe it is a rant by a peeved ISFJ.

1) Liberal Loser:
2) Golden Boy (or girl):
3) Classic Nerds:
4) Religious Fanatic:
5) Cynical Realist:

Read it and yawned. I don't see how it adds anything to the understanding of INTPs. The link doesn't work, btw.

I thought the descriptions were quite harsh and cynical, overly concentrating on and emphasizing the negative stereotypical aspects( such as the alleged poor hygiene).
I posted it because it was a bit of a shock after the mostly positive descriptions of INTP I have so far found. Some might find this humorous.
Fixed the link.

The INTP unemotionally and detachedly explains why he or she thinks in a certain way - that is what INTPs are best at, observation, particularly of themselves - and the INFJ then thinks that they are opening up to them, and becomes moved and emotionally attached to the INTP. The INTP sees that their observations are being received and interesting to the INFJ, so they continue.

A fascinating relationship between two types. A relationship of total mutual miscommunication, the motivations are completely different, but with a reinforcing result. The INTP feels the closeness and intimacy of being able to share their scientific self-analysis, and the INFJ feels that the INTP is sharing their innermost thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and so the cycle of miscommunication keeps them locked together in a positively reenforcing relationship.

This seems to pan out, and the irony makes me laugh.
The five subtypes seem to be interesting, and the descriptions seem to be brutaly realistic. Probably was written by an INTP, it has that 'I don't care if you're offended by this' air to it. I like it.

After all, we're not all good points, and this points that out. I also found some good points on there.

I found these links a while back as a solution:
http://www.personalitytype.com/jyt/isfj.html
http://www.personalitytype.com/jyt/intp.html
http://www.personalitytype.com/jyt/intj.html

*edit* Since the above quote contained a link about intp-isfj relationships, I mentioned the above three links, but here is one also for infjs:
http://www.personalitytype.com/jyt/infj.html

Of course, when things have gone terribly awry, counseling and mediation would be better.

Also, I know it's off-topic, but that was just too much negativity to let stand unmodulated.

I actually know all thos people. Yes most of then are INTP's. Even Iganokami I've also had the misfortune of meetin the inspirations for the "religious fanatic". I'm surpriced they don't have a "world destroying idiot Nazi" stereotype.

Iganokami is INTP and posted on the INTP Open. I think that he may post here.

5) Cynical Realist:
This type of INTP has seen the world, and realized that they want no part of it, except where they can get knowledge, experience, and entertainment from it. They see life for what it is, a big cosmic joke, and often wonder if they should laugh or cry, but otherwise just say the hell with it, and go get laid. They tend to be sarcastic and funny, are world travelers, and can blend in to any environment, and they tend to get laid a lot. They also tend to be fairly well educated, yet stuck in worthless and meaningless jobs, both because the people around them are idiots and because they don't have the mindless compulsion to kiss ass to move up in life. They are the street philosopher, the beat poet, the writers, and fountains of knowledge and wisdom. They tend to play multiple instruments, and just generally look cool and sexy. Their experience is as wide as their knowledge is deep, and tend to be very observant, and get laid a whole lot. They shower regularly, dress well yet comfortably, tend to be sexy in a low key sort of way, and tend to score easily with members of the opposite sex. Although their living quarters tend to appear disorganized, it is an organized disorganization, arranged in such a way as to be easy to get from the bed to the door, and back without interruption. This subtype also tends to like to party, likes to go out for drinks, can get along with pretty much anyone, and tends to get laid more than any other subtype of INTP.

As a page written by an intp, for other intps, I think it's pretty funny.

Well, if you will read what INTPs decide about themselves...

I did find it humorous. I actually snickered while reading it.

But then again, I do master the art of self-irony quite well. ;P

hmm...I would be the cynical realist, however, I can't get laid so I suppose in that sense I'm some mix of classic nerd and realist. I have no desire to talk about star trek, but I do enjoy talking about gaming which I guess is almost as bad. I do plan on being a philosopher through my entire life, and do plan on playing a large amount of instruments (trumpet and guitar now, violin and drums later). I guess I'm just the cynical realist without the benefits =/.

I fit into several different ones. I play DND, I might turn out a golden boy, and I'm definitely a cynical realist minus the sex part. I'm only 17 though... all in good time...

Some of the characteristics of those subtypes aren't INTP though.

Cynical realist here, too... specifically the parts about "They see life for what it is, a big cosmic joke, and often wonder if they should laugh or cry, but otherwise just say the hell with it" and "Their experience is as wide as their knowledge is deep, and tend to be very observant" and also "they don't have the mindless compulsion to kiss ass to move up in life" and "Although their living quarters tend to appear disorganized, it is an organized disorganization, arranged in such a way as to be easy to get from the bed to the door, and back without interruption." I talk to the wrong kind of girls to get laid, though. Oh well.

They all seem really over-exaggerated, probably deliberatly to make it all a joke.

People like that may exist but probably couldn't be called INTPs in my opinion. But then, I think there's a lot of people being falsely labeled as INTPs anyway.

Probably closest to the cynical realist, but all the getting laid is only fantasies in my head, and probably will be for some time. lol.

I don't see any of them describing me consistently, but I do see parts of me in many. Goes to show you how chameleon-like we can be. It also goes to show how oblivious we are to what others think about INTPs in general.

There are some negative INTP traits, in general descriptions, that describe me quite well and I detest:

1. Poor follow through
2. Poor writing skills
3. Inability to determine a true direction in life
4. In ability to communicate my true feelings

Cynical realist is probably the most realistic description of a subtype, minus the getting laid part.

I'm probably classic nerd, leaning a little toward golden boy. I didn't marry the first woman who kissed me (in my mid 20's) though, but I probably could have.

I have the same except for #2

I could add :
procrastination
eg 'I haven't got around to doing anything about my procrastination yet.'
intellectual snobishness
eg 'my superiority complex is better than yours'

I too detest these traits, but at least we have identified them and are hopefully doing something about it.

Amusing I found it. I would say I'm the "Cynical Realist." Except the getting laid part.

From the article: "They see life for what it is, a big cosmic joke, and often wonder if they should laugh or cry."
I had a quote in my AIM info just a few weeks ago: "Life is funny and depressing." Haha. A correlation there.

And I do play multiple instruments like it was saying; oboe, flute and piano.

"They shower regularly, dress well yet comfortably." - Sounds a lot like me too.

Definitely a cynical realist

They tend to be sarcastic and funny, are world travellers, and can
blend in to any environment, and they tend to get laid a lot.
I really enjoy to travel (mostly just within North America but looking forward to the day that I can afford to travel further). My husband has said that I would make a great spy because I sit back and watch the world around me with anyone rarely noticing that I'm there.

They also tend to be fairly well educated, yet stuck in worthless and meaningless jobs, both because the people around them are idiots and because they don't have the mindless compulsion to kiss ass to move
up in life.
Definitely true of how I feel about work.

They shower regularly, dress well yet comfortably, tend to be sexy in a low key sort of way, and tend to score easily with members of the opposite sex.
Showering regularly is always a good way pick up guys. As far as scoring easily, when I was single this was never really hard. Probably because guys would mistake that whole quiet standoffish thing as actually caring about them. I guess maybe it was just me being rebellious.

but otherwise just say the hell with it, and go get laid.
Sounds like a good plan! :D

The classic nerd description fits somebody I've observed eerily well from a superficial perspective: works at the community college's computer lab, has a picture on his folder of anime girls that resembles characters from Card Captors (art and character design wise), and he has a ratty look. Possibly an INTP right under my nose.
