View Full Version : Smoking? Dirty Habit or Getaway?

I'm a smoker. Trying to quit. But... it's my outlet to get away for a few minutes. Phone ringing, email, IM, people passing by, drives me a little crazy sometimes. So I go outside and smoke.

I need to find a replacement for it. I've quit smoking several times before. Don't need the nicotine, just some other excuse to get away.

Any suggestions?

Go to the bathroom. Sigh and enjoy the quiet just for a few moments. It will energize you for a few more hours.

Or at least this is how I went through 5 months of office life.

You must have had a singularly tragic life.

You must tell us all about it sometime.

If winners never quit, and quitters never win, who's the genius who came up with "Quit while you're ahead"?

Say you have to jog. Take a little walk or something, once around the building.

Claverhouse

Yes. I always found offices tragicly dull places. At the end of one internship I contemplated suicide. Or at least dropping out of school just to get out of it.

Offices are places where exciting people go to die. And Guardians go to pick the flesh off of the bones of their rotting carcasses .

Or you could just not tell anyone your going to the bathroom so that you don't gnaw on their brains.

In my experience people often don't want to know why your going to the bathroom. Actually they would rather you went to the bathroom to have some nice refreshing crack instead of telling them that you go there because you have more fiber in your diet.

Do you like cubicles?

I've been trying to quit the tobacco for a while now. The longest I went was a year or two because of the girlfriend. But as soon as we broke up I bought a pack of ciggs. I guess it was some kind of petty revenge. It also might just be an indication that quitting for someone else won't last too long after that person is gone. I have a prideful streak in me so I always tried quitting cold turkey. Right now I'm in the I don't buy ciggs but I will ask you for one stage. This works for me because I'm so shy that I'm even reluctant to do that. So I'm pretty much down to a cigarette a day now. Though I always slip when it comes to social functions like weddings. I'll buy a pack then because I can't think of anything better to do at a wedding except escape go outside every 5 minutes for a smoke. Another problem is I smoke blunts which have tobbacco in them so I've probably never been completely without nicotine... :sigh:

A blunt is a cigar that is unrolled to put mary jane into for smoking, as opposed to using rolling papers. They hold more and burn slower. The cigar paper is made from tobacco leaves so I'm still getting a nicotime fix even though I've mostly quit.

and danke for the cigarette :smoke:

Smoking is a gross habit. Not only are you harming yourself you are harming the others around you. The smell of cigarettes clings to you and believe me it is not very attractive.

I think smokers don't realize it. I can smell smoke from someone's clothes over 12 ft. away. It is often easy to tell who regular smokers are just by smell.

Dubious.

you are harming the others around you.

Only the gullible.

The smell of cigarettes clings to you and believe me it is not very attractive.

It actually improves on the native scent of the average non-smoker.

I took up smoking originally because I liked the short buzz. For a few months after that, I kind of just smoked for the nicotine. But for about a year now I've just loved the taste of tobacco (Camel lights or Turkish Gold), and It's just damn good when you're high.

edit: blunts are great.

Yeah as long as your clothes dont stay in a really smokey unventilated room, smoke adds a nice little smell.

that reminds me of the smoking room I saw at the Atlanta airport.. just an enclosed hazy looking room where people went to smoke. It was pretty crowded too..

Same for me. It surprises me that a large chunk of the population can prefer tarred up lungs over an effective sense of taste and smell.

that reminds me of one of my uncles house. I calculated and I think he smoked 15 cigarettes per hour. When I finally left I thought to myself that I had smoked whole cigarettes just by second hand smoke. People don't want to go to his house. Not only is he considered a bit grouchy (INTJ, but I like him) but your clothes end up stinking to high heaven once you've left.

A gambler, probably. You rarely win anyway when you're gambling, and the more you play, the more chances you have to lose, so if you do win it may be more profitable not to press your luck and lose it all again and then some.

Winston lights, pack a day or a little more. I quit for a year once, and couldn't stand the smell after a while. I'm not ready to quit yet.
