Haven't played chess for 2-3 years, but I've been playing some chess now and then on ICC lately ...

I just beat up an (IM) for the first time in a few years ... feels good. :D

Meh I don't care that it's a 3 0 game ... it's my first scalp in a few years and it is nice. Nobody has to respond, it's not for bragging, I just enjoyed it very much. :D

If anyone does actually go through the game, sorry that I couldn't get it in a neater format. Examining the game and typing pgn doesn't seem to work in Thief. Meh.

what is ICC
what is an (IM)

Last Song
13 Oct 2004, 09:14 AM
ICC is Internet Chess Club
(IM) is International Master ... which is a title FIDE (the official chess body) gives out to recognise players who achieve a certain number of performances above a particular standard. (There are 3 titles given by fide ... Fide Master ... International Master ... Grandmaster.)

This was more of a chance to save the game than an actual post I suppose ... I couldn't find a way to save it with Thief (the interface I use for ICC).

what is a PGN? so many acronyms in this thread.

You followed the opening themes and played the opening well ...

You missed 15...Bd4! and again 16...Bd4!

It looks like 36...Rff2 wins with threat of Rxh2 mate. 37. Nf3 Rxf3 ... 37. Kg1 Rxh2+ 38. Kf1 Rh1 mate ... 37. Rb7+ Kh6 (Nf5 Kxg6 Nxd4 cxd4 and black is a rook up so that's just no good for white) 38. Rh7+ Kg5 39. Rh5+ Kg4 40. h3+ Kxg3 41. Rg5+ Kxh4 etc ... pointless line but white runs out of checks. =)

Ok and the rest (from 43...Ra1?? onwards) ... no comment. *grin*.

Was mostly a good game, though. The opening was quite well played. *thumbs up*

PGN ... Portable Game Notation I think it stands for ... basically a file type for chess games (uses chess notation ... i.e. in the quotations above). :D

There are also chessbase file types (cbh, cbf, can't remember, has been a while).

Hmm ... needs ... more ... acronyms. =)

Last time I played chess was on yahoo games. It was against an Israeli whom was pissed out of his head on vodka at the time. Lets just say that he wiped the floor with me. So much so that his ending comment was:
"were you even trying?"

I would play more, but I prefer proper real life chessboards. However nobody in my family likes it :(. So I have a nice glass chesset sitting there doing nothing :'(

Last time I played chess was on yahoo games.

Last time I played chess it was with my husband on this Peanuts-cartoon character board my mom gave me. ((OK, this is where I admit that I collect Peanuts stuff.))

I won 2 out of 3. My grandfather taught me to play chess, he had learned in a hospital during WW2. However, he did not teach me, and I did not learn, any of the notations in the thread above. Does it make everything more worthwhile?

On a related note, I'm thinking of setting up a board at work and playing against the night guy (INTJ). Obviously leaves great space between plays. Any suggestions?

There are chess-programs you can play against.

Great suggestions, thanks!
