This topic was inspired by the NTs vs. "nerds" topic.
While I don't drink much now, when I was younger, I would drink every saturday night, and would consume large amounts of alcohol, and as it turns out, much more than the people around me.

The point (yes, I've finally arrived at it) is this:
How good is your alcohol tolerance? Is this an INTP 'trait', or was there something in my life that gave me this massive tolerance to alcohol?

If it is a trait, why do you think this is?

I can drink a 5th by myself. I drink fast too. I don't drink as much as I'd like to anymore, so I think I'll pick back up on it soon.

As far as tolerence, I am usually totally wasted by the 7th shot.

I have this thing about using chasers though...I can't drink whiskey straight, without a big mug of iced vanilla coke to wash it down.

I dont think tolerance is a trait unique to INTP's - you build up a tolerance to alcohol the more you drink.

I built up a pretty good tolerance in the past. After quitting drinking for more than a year, I had a few slips, and found that even a shot gave me a tired, hot, and uncomfortable feeling. Yeah, so I think your tolerance can change from abstinance.

I have a very high tolerance, though it does vary based on how much I've eaten. If I have 3 meals in a day, then go drinking, I'm gonna be broke at the end of the night. If I eat only a lunch or a couple of snacks, 4-5 and I"m feeling good...

I can drink quite a bit as long as I plan for it ahead of time. The length of time spent drinking I find to be a big determining factor, as I can get really wasted if I start early and keep a good pace =). Slow and steady wins the race...ok wins really isn't the correct word here 0_o

I have a relatively low tolerance, but I don't like drinking excessively. Just often.

I can go through a pint of whiskey in any given night. A beer or two after that and I'm good and toasty, ready for bed.

I've only been to a few parties, and have never been drunk. I've finished off about 2/3 of a bottle of Absolut vodka, but most of it I was drinking with Red Bull, and it took about three hours. Other than that, when I couldn't get to sleep, it would take about three of four shots of vodka late at night to get my dizzy, and I would just pass out on the couch.

Last Thanksgiving I had one beer. I almost fell down my steps getting back to my room.

I used to drink a lot, but that pretty much sums up my current tolerance.

I have one beer, then I notice the inadaquacy of my reflexes. I don't like it, so I have never been drunk.

in my experience I usually would drink whatever it is I had then fill up my bottle and glass/cup with water.

I have never actually drank but after a horrible experiance with some cough medicine a couple of days ago I'm pretty sure I'll never develop any tolerance or feel moved enough to try to develop any. Well, at least in the near future.

I like mixed drinks, but don't have more than one or two, usually. Also, I tend to have a drink rather infrequently--perhaps once every few months, or so.

hmmm

i have been thinking of becoming a professional homeless person

to roam the streets with a bottle of spirits in my left hand

and a backgammon board in the other

it would be a nice life

i would be like 'i wonder wether ud like to tell me what happens when u mix spirits with sulfuric acid [pause] theres a reaction' then i would break the bottle in a random person's face and jump away expecting an explosion

And wake up three days later in a hospital bed with one broken jaw, two broken ribs, and three broken limbs.

Still, you'd like the nurses.

I definitely hit my stride back in college. The desire to put 'em away has gone. Although I love the taste of beer. I'm kinda like Will Farrell in Old School, "The cold...when it hits your lips!" :D

If I am smart enough to think about it, I'll have a beer or two the night or two nights before those rare times I get to go to a "Hollywood" or networking party to build tolerence. If I go a long time without any alcohol, (not unlikely for me to go 2 months w/out a beer), then sometimes that first drink back I'm over-enunciating ever word and I look like I've just escaed from the Betty Ford Clinic.

I'll generally pack it up for the night after my second beer. Three if I've been eating. There have been times when I've only had a couple of drinks, never got buzzed and still woken up hungover. What's up wid dat?! Totally sucks.

Two's my limit even after a fatty meal. Just enough to get a pleasant warmth going.
Never have had a hangover, but I usually have a glass of water before bed, if I'm not sure whether I will.

My tolerance is very low, but then I can't stand the taste of alcohol and could never figure out why I would want to develop a taste for it. The last time I got drunk was May 2003, before that was sometime in the early 80's

When I want to get drunk I usually pick something that will do it fast. In the early 80's it was Southern Comfort. Now I've noticed that one glass of "Iced Tea" gives me a buzz.
