I noticed that Tim Flynn's test is the only one posted on this board...
Try this one if you're still confused about what your E-type is.

I did this test when it was posted in another thread. I didn't like it then either.
I'e heard that the Enneagram is vastly better offline rather then online... although I didn't like it offline either.

There are two tests - a long one and a short one. I posted a link to the short test.
On the long test, I've scored as 5 both wings the first time I remember taking it and 9 both wings with 5w6 just below by a statistically insignificant amount the second time.
I prefer to go by how my behaviors and feedback on them fit with the accumulated info I have on the types from a little book reading and lots of board discussion. At this stage tests probably won't give me any new insight.

I have already taken the short one and now I took the other one. Here's my results:
You are most likely a type 5.
Taking wings into account, you seem to be a 5w4.

I've been exploring my Enneagram type some more, so took this test which was new to me.
7 SP as compared with 5 or 4 SX is, well, interesting. I seem to myself to be strongly SX, but when in 7-mode I do see that I am kind of forced (after indiscretion, especially) to be self-preserving more than I am accustomed. So, these results could make more sense than I originally thought. However, 7 SP versus 4SX could also be a natural outgrowth of manic depression, which seems 7/4ish alternatingly (with 5 representing euthymic mood).
Also, this test seems biased towards a different end than other Enneagram tests I've taken. I think all tests will be somewhat flawed, so that is not my point of interest, but rather that some tests highlight certain traits more than others. In this one, the only questions I answered strongly were those about being undisciplined, adventurous, spontaneous, and temperamental. I felt like the questions about detaching in order to understand abstractions were underrepresented.

5w6 again
The thing with these tests is, you soon start to use what you already know about the enneagram to answer the questions - using what you've learnt about yourself through knowing your enneagram type (such as, for example, that I'm susceptible to anxiety more than other people) as a shortcut to not have to really think and personalise the questions.
I found myself answering these questions too fast, having to consciously stop myself and ponder, rather than go with what I thought I already knew about myself. Still turned out 5w6 though.

I guess in those cases you could always ask someone else to complete the test rating your personality... so you could get rid of the interference of your knowledge of the system.

Nobody knows me well enough to do that for me. I keep information about myself hidden unless it's somehow important for them to know, or I'm in one of my "and now, I will explore what it is like to do things differently" moods where I'll intentionally seek to do things differently because I want to confront myself.
So I'm stuck always testing 5w6 from now on, I think.

But then, how do you know how you are... maybe you think you're anxious but are not really compared to most people. Maybe, if you had an objective measure of your bodily states, you would realize you have low anxiety levels but you perceive them as being more than they really are? You could come out a certain way, but be unaware of it.
ApeTheDog

Well you can never really know how you are unless you compare yourself to other people - and since you never know if they are truly who you perceive them to be, or if they are putting on a facade for you...

Maybe, but at some point personality => behavior. For example, more anxious people will likely panic in emergency situations. If you tend to maintain your calm in those cases, maybe you're really not anxious... Or, an E will probably have initiated the conversation more times in an evening than his I friend, etc.

I don't think so. I think the most anxious people are the ones who are seemable an oasis of calmth. They're the ones who are so used to anxiety that they've learnt to control it completely. How do you learn to control something, other than through massive practice?
I used to be a nervous wreck as a child. I had some kind of strange tourette symptoms going on, and would never feel at ease in any situation I found myself in.
Right now, I am never stressed at all, because I've been through all of that, and have learnt for myself how to control it - as it was clearly not helping me. I've learnt this lesson where others haven't been enabled to learn it.

I see what you mean, but anxiety is an emotional state, and at one point there must be physical symptoms that manifest themselves... Increased heart beat, sweating, shaking, blood pressure, etc. If someone controls their anxiety, as to let no symptom show, they are not anxious anymore. I don't think a purely intellectual state of anxiety without consequences on the body exists...

I do agree with you, but in this case I tried to answer them as if I didn't have that influence. So, my different results could be a result of greater self-awareness or could be something entirely different.

Well, the body learns to deal with it. Just like people who have gone through a lot of pain develop a high threshold for it. You're right, though. I'm not anxious anymore.
I do have the 6 wing thing going on, however, where I notice that I am far more nervous and afraid of/around other people - and I see this in how other people display normal behavior all the time (where they don't let other people simply being around influence how they act) whereas it has always taken me an effort to be on that plateau. With practice an experience, that has diminuished a lot too.

Instead of saying E theory is balooney, can't you try to reconcile your differences? I already said I thought this test was fundamentally different from others, but I'm guessing there's still something to be gained from the emphasis it places on certain traits. Out of curiosity, what Enneagram type do you believe you are?

I think that answering the questions quickly actually gives a more accurate result. There's a tendency to "overthink" the questions if you analyze them too much and thus end up with an inaccurate result. With that being said, I don't think any of the free tests online are particularly good, and that they measure behavior more than they measure true motivation like an Enneagram test should.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to offend you. If it works for you, fine... It doesn't seem to work for me. I can't really identify with any of the descriptions. I often get the same type in tests, 8, but it does not fit at all when I read the descriptions. I could see myself in type 5, 2, 1... whenever I read the descriptions they seem to fit a little better, although loosely. The MBTI works better for me.
